How to Create an Easter Basket from Dollar Store Items

Lauren Romano
While you may think that you have to spend a huge amount of money to put together an Easter gift basket, it is simply not true. You can put together a wonderful gift basket from items that you find in the dollar store. Whoever will be receiving the gift basket, you will surely be able to find items that are perfect for him or her. Not only can you save yourself some money, but the recipient can still get a lot of joy out of the present as well.

Not all dollar stores are created equal, so you may have to find one that has all the items that you need. My personal favorite, after going through many dollar stores, is Dollar Tree. They always seem to have quality items that I am looking for.

Choose an Easter basket from one of the many that the dollar store has in stock. To save an extra dollar, and do some good for the environment, shred up old newspaper and put it in the bottom of the basket instead of using Easter grass. You may want to cover the basket after it's packed, in which case, pick up a shrink-wrap gift basket bag.

The dollar store has an entire section of candy to browse through. They have many types of candy, everything from chocolate bunnies to gummy chicks, so you are bound to find what you want for the basket. Consider also picking up something for yourself that will satisfy your sweet tooth.

If you are creating the basket for a young child, search through the dollar store to get a stuffed bunny or lamb, an Easter puzzle, an Easter coloring book and a set of crayons to accompany the candy. If you are purchasing items for an older child or an adult, consider browsing through the bath items. There are plenty of scented perfume and bath items to choose from that smell amazing. You may also want to throw in a candle and a spring themed candleholder. Depending on the dollar store you visit, you can find glass religious statues, which are perfect to give for the holiday.

While you are at the dollar store, pick up an Easter card to give as well. Stick the card in the basket and neatly arrange all of your dollar store gifts. After the basket is all packed, you can put it into the shrink-wrap gift basket bag or leave it uncovered. Put a large bow on the front of the basket and you are ready to present your gift.

Dollar stores are great for special shopping (as for Easter baskets), but they also are the best places to shop for basics (toothpaste, detergent, etc.). Thanks for your creative and economic advice.
