How to Create Facebook Profile Art

Summer Banks
The latest rage on Facebook is profile art. With the new Facebook application, bring a little style to your profile is easier than ever before. Here are the simple steps to create a Facebook profile that looks more like art than social media.

How difficult is Facebook profile art? Moderately Difficult

What do I need for Facebook profile art? High resolution digital picture (that you own copyright to), computer with Internet access, editing software or Paint, Facebook account.

Step 1 - Choose the right picture.

Facebook profile art requires a high resolution digital picture. If a portrait is being used, your face should take up most of the frame. The eyes need to be located near the top of the picture which is where the editing software comes in handy.

Step 2 - Editing your Facebook profile art photo.

Before editing any photo for Facebook profile art, make several copies of the image and give them different names. There is nothing worse than having the perfect photograph on your computer and editing it only to save the image without a copy of the original. There could be mistakes made during editing that ruin the look of the photograph, so copies save you from the distress.

Assuming you will be using a portrait for your Facebook profile art, move the image to your computer desktop for easy access. Right click the image with your mouse and look at the available options. If "Edit" is showing on the list, move your mouse over the word "Edit" and click. This will open the digital photo you have chosen for your Facebook profile art in the editing software on your computer.

If the word "Edit" is not on the list, look for the option to "Open With". Click this option and choose "Paint". You can easily edit any picture for a Facebook profile art project with Paint.

After the photo is open in the editing software, make the changes you desire. Some people like to take all the color out of the image while others simple need to trim the photo.

Step 3 - Test the image position in PicCut.

Open your Internet browser and enter http://www.piccut.com into the URL box. Hit "Go". PicCut.com is a website that specializes in Facebook profile art for free. While Photoshop can be used to cut the images into sections, this website offers a quick and easy solution for people who are not familiar with Photoshop.

Upload the photo with the "1-header" option and view the final result. This is where the extra copies of the photo on your desktop will come in handy. PicCut.com breaks the photo into six different images to be used as your Facebook profile art. These images are uploaded in a specific order (see Step 4) to create Facebook profile art. The service is 100% free.

If the image is perfect the first time, move on to Step 4. If there are problems with the layout or placement of the photograph, go back to the editing software and make changes. It could take several tries to get the photo positioned just right.

Step 4 - Creating your Facebook profile art for all to see.

Once the images look how your want them to look, download the file to your desktop. The images are packaged in a zip file so they will need to be extracted on the desktop. You will see six images. The images will be named one through five and profilepic.

Log into Facebook.com. Share photo number five (5) first. After uploading, click on the photo in your status list and add a tag. The tag can be your own name. Go back to your profile and share photo number four (4). Again, click on the photo in your status list and tag the photo with your name. Continue this process with image three (3), then image two (2) and finally image one (1).

After images one through five are uploaded and tagged, go back to your Facebook profile and share the image titled "profilepic". Click on the image in your status list but DO NOT TAG THE PHOTO. This time you want to set the image "profile pic" as your new profile picture.

Step 5 - Cleaning up after yourself.

After uploading all the images to your Facebook profile art, go back to your status list and delete the updates created when you uploaded the photos. When you hover your mouse pointer over the photo, a small "X" will appear in the upper right hand corner. Click the "X" to remove the photo. This will not delete the photo from your Facebook profile or alter your Facebook profile art.

Tips About Your Facebook Profile Art

This Facebook profile art will only work if you have the new Facebook page update.

If someone tags you in a photo, it will throw off your Facebook profile art and you will need to upload images one through five again.

Do not tag photos when uploading to Facebook after creating your Facebook profile art or you will have to upload images one through five again.

With Facebook profile art you can create and recreate your Facebook profile every day, every week, every month or anytime you like. With a little practice, you can alter images with free online tools like Picnik.com and give your Facebook profile art a completely fresh look any time you like.
