How to Create a Free Radio Station on Pandora Radio

The Pandora Radio website allows you to create your own free personalized radio station by typing your favorite musical artists and songs. You can create multiple free radio stations based upon single artists or add variety to a radio station by adding multiple artists and songs. Pandora is based on the Music Genome Project, which represents eight years of musical research in both popular and classical musical genres. The songs in the Music Genome Project have been analyzed by trained musical analysts according to up to 400 different musical characteristics. Pandora uses this information to provide you with a personalized stream of music based upon your musical preferences.

Create a Free Account on Pandora Radio

To get started, navigate to the Pandora Radio website and click the "Register" link. Type in your email address along with a secure password. Then enter your year of birth, zip code and gender. Uncheck the box beside "Send me personalized recommendations and tips" to avoid receiving unwanted email. Click "Register for Free." There's is no need to confirm your email address. You may begin creating your personalized radio station on Pandora right away.

Create Your Free Personalized Radio Stations on Pandora Radio

Enter a favorite musical artist or song in the field provided on the Pandora Radio website. If there are multiple results, select the correct one from the list. Click "Create." Pandora will begin to automatically create a radio station based upon your favorite music. However, when your radio station is new, it's likely that your Pandora radio station will play music you don't like. To prevent Pandora from playing these songs, click the "Thumbs Down" icon within the song window. If you like a specific song a great deal, you can click the "Thumbs Up" icon to add that song and similar songs to your free Pandora radio station. Continue to rate the songs in your Pandora radio station "Thumbs Up" and "Thumbs Down" as you listen to hone the station to your preferences. Click the arrows on the left and right side of your song list to rate songs you may have missed. You can also click "Menu" and select "I'm tired of this song" to remove the song from your radio station.

You can also further personalize your free Pandora radio station by clicking "Add Variety" on the left side of your radio station window. Type another one of your favorite musical artists or songs in the field and click "Add." If you can't think of any new songs or artists to add, click one of the suggestions under "Stumped? Try one of these," or click the "More" link to see more suggestions.
