The bright pastels and happy springtime theme that is typically associated with Easter baskets is not exactly appealing to the eye of the average Goth, Punk, or Emo minded kid. There are several ways to improvise on the traditional basket to create a unique gift any Goth kid will love!
Start with purchasing a basket. Choose a darker color such as, black, purple, or red. If you know the favorite color of the person you are creating the gift for, choose a basket in that color.
The color of the basket is really up to you. Any color basket can be turned Goth and spiced up with a cool ribbon or bow. Choose a wide ribbon with a color that contrasts with the basket. For example, if you chose a red basket, use a black ribbon. Tie the ribbon around the basket as trim to give it that Gothic touch. A solid black ribbon or a black with polka dot print is a good choice and goes well with any color basket.
Now that you have your basket, you will need to add some sort of filling to the base. If you can find black Easter basket grass, that is perfect. If you can't, there are plenty of other options to choose from. You can substitute grass with fake spider webs. If you have enough excess ribbon to cut into small strips, you can use it a base to your basket as well. You can also use dark colored crepe or tissue paper that matches your basket as a filler.
Now for the fun part, filling the basket with goodies!
Every Easter basket should include a few candy treats. Definitely include purple peeps in your Goth basket. Chocolate bunnies are always good for any Easter basket. You can also add some red twizzlers or purple and black jelly beans. Throw in a few Ring Pops too! Choose your goodies by color. If they match your basket or they are dark colored, they will look great!
Include a few red and purple Easter eggs too.
Depending on the age of the recipient, choose a few small Gothic themed gifts or take some ideas from the following list to include in your basket as well.
Stickers (Happy Bunny, Bands, etc.)
Cool Key Chains
Wrist Cuffs, Bracelets, or Bands
Black Roses
Patches
Decals or Bumper Stickers
Dark Nail Polishes

Taper Candles and Candle Holder
Guitar Picks (if applicable)
Music CD

There are many other items available worthy to include in your Gothic Easter basket. All you have to do is look. Remember to think outside the box when choosing your items. Be creative and have fun while putting a new spin on a traditional gift!
