One of the first things you want to do is make a list of relevant keywords that pertain to your particular venture. If you have a dog bed web site, you could find keywords that relate to dogs, dog breeds and dog groomers just to name a few.
The next step would be to go to a site that has web rankings. The best is Alexa.com. Here you will type in dog breeds. A list of web sites will appear. You can scan thru this list and check the "site info" to find sites that have under 400,000 or whatever your set goal may be. The lower the number, the better, it means they have a lot of traffic.
Following the link to the web site will enable you to view the site and see if it is a good fit for your joint venture. If you find that this site will work for you, search for relevant information. Some information you will want to check for is, do they have a PPC program also known as pay per click. This is called an Affiliate Program. This produces revenue for you.
The next thing to look for is do they allow you to link to their site? If they do, you can place a link on their page with the expectation that people will click the link and be taken to your site. This can produce revenue for your site if people buy your product.
Many web owners prefer to talk to the other web owners in person; this can establish a long term and rewarding opportunity for both webmasters. If this is the way you would like to conduct your joint venture, search the site for any contact information you may need.
Before contacting any webmaster about their web site, you should do a Google search to find out how many sites come up for this particular web site. You can do this by searching site:http://www.thesitename.com. This will give the number. Also do a Yahoo search the same way.
After you are done with your site search, go to Yahoo and search for the number of links to this website. You can do this by searching link:http://www.thesitename.com. Now you see how many links are here.
Your joint venture is now ready to be put into action. Go through your list and find the top twenty sites. Either contact the webmaster or add your link to their web site. Continue this venture until you are completely satisfied you are getting the best exposure and revenues.
