How to Create a Nursery with a Monkey Theme

If you're looking for a sweet and whimsical nursery idea, go for a monkey theme. There are numerous ideas for decor and color schemes, so you're bound to find one that fits your individual style.

Walls: For a monkey theme, there are many options as far as wall color goes. If neutrals are your cup of tea, paint the walls in shades of brown or beige. Add stripes or large circles. If you're going for bright, try any shade of green that tickles your fancy. Add a mural that includes a tree with a monkey hanging upside down, or use stencils to create a fun saying, such as "no more monkeys jumping on the bed", "monkey business", or "just monkeying around". For a retro look, paint the walls in brown, then add touches of red and white to give it a sock monkey feel.

Furniture: For a crib, try Delta Children's Product's Eclipse 4-in-1 Convertible Crib in black cherry. It's rich color goes great with a monkey theme, and since it's convertible, it grows with your baby. It converts to a toddler bed, day bed and even a full-size bed. Its stationary design means that it meets new safety standards for baby cribs (cribs with a drop-down side are unsafe and should no longer be used). If you are going with the sock monkey theme, consider Carter's Just One You white 4-in-1 crib. Its graceful curves and classic style make it great for either gender. Finish off the theme by dressing the crib in red and white bedding.

Decor: Hang shelves that compliment the color of your walls, then add fun accessories that go with the monkey theme. Make the shelves and dresser home to a family of sock monkeys. Purchase a cheap "Barrel of Monkeys", then hang them from the ceiling, interlocking the tails. If you wish, hang pictures on the wall of a cartoon monkey, such as Curious George. Add a soft rug on the floor in tones of brown (or green if that's what you've chosen for your walls). A red and white striped rug looks great in a sock monkey room.

These are just a few of the many ideas for a nursery with a monkey theme. Accessories can be made or purchased for a low price, and most of the décor can be done with paint alone, making this a perfect DIY project for your little monkey's room.
