How to Create an Outdoor Room Out of Your Concrete Patio

Do you have a concrete slab attached to the back or side of your home that you could turn into an outdoor room with a few changes? These simple changes explained in this article can turn your concrete slab into concrete fab! Follow these steps to transform your outdoor living area this spring.

ROOFING:

To create a sense of having a roof over your concrete slab outside of your home, you will simply need to build an arbor over the concrete slab if you do not already have one. Once you have the arbor, which is kind of like an open roof framing of a house, you will need to cover it with a canvas. A large white canvas will work best to block just enough light and heat, but still allow some light to flow into the "outdoor room" you are creating.

FLOORING:

Next you need to turn that concrete floor into a more inviting area. You could either paint the concrete, to make it look warmer and more inviting or you could add a rug. You could add a large colored rug, that is bright and spring looking or you could add some outdoor grass carpet, which would handle weather great. You could even simply add a few area rugs.

WALLS:

If you want to give your "outdoor room" more a closed in feeling you could add some trellises around the edges of the concrete to give your room more of a closed in feeling, yet still making it airy and outdoorsy.

FURNITURE:

To finish the feeling of your "outdoor room" you can add some warm furniture. Add a table and chairs and a swing and simply throw on some blankets and oversized pillows to give your new outdoor space a comforting and relaxing feel.
