WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
1 Large slab of white Styrofoam (must be 1/2 inch thick or more)
You can usually find these large slabs of white Styrofoam at your local craft store.
TIP: You can also use Styrofoam insulation from your local home improvement center, making sure it's the thickness required for this project.
Large Stencil letters
TIP: Smaller stencils do not work well with this project
Temp Controlled Wood Burning Tool With Fine Point
Flat White Primer
Textured Faux Stone Spray Paint
Paint brushes
1 Bottle of Gold Acrylic Paint
1 Bottle of Shiny Black Acrylic Paint
First step is to lay out your letters on the slab of Styrofoam. Allow yourself a 1/4 inch between each letter. After you have decided on your lay out, trace your letters using a fine point black marker.
Next using your wood burning tool on a low setting, carefully trace your letters using a well ventilated area. Try not to move slow or allowing the tool to burn all the way through. Try to go quickly and evenly.
TIP: Practice first on an extra piece till you can get the hang of it.
Now after your letter's have been burned its time to give it 2 coats of flat white primer allowing coats to dry in between. Make sure to prime the back as well.
After primer is dry go ahead and give it two coats of faux stone spray paint, making sure to get the back as well.
Its now time to highlight those letters. I find metallic gold works best. Go in around your raised letters with a small paint brush being care full to only follow the impression made by the heat tool. Then Paint your raised lettering with shiny black.
Once all is dry give it a few coats of a flat protective finish. Flat weather proof sealer.
Now hang it! You can do so by adding hooks to the top and some chain or by drilling a hole in the back large enough to fit the head of your nail or screw (being careful not go all the way through).
Happy Crafting!
