How to Create Your Own Gossip Column

Mrs. Renee
If you want to create a gossip column that people will actually read, then your first goal is to find information that will be interesting. You have probably always been interested in the dear Abby type of columns, where someone writes in with a problem that they are having and Abby gives them advice or you could always try a different approach. Some people like to have their own celebrity gossip columns, while others like to write about local gossip. You may think that more people would prefer to read about celebrity gossip, but since there are so many places to go to see and read about celebrities your column may end up being more interesting to them.

One mom that I recently spoke with has a gossip blog where she writes and gossips about online companies and other bloggers. Of course just because the word gossip is used it does not necessarily mean that she is staying anything bad. However she gets well over 1000 readers a day, just because they find it interesting. Try searching online and offline for interesting pieces of information. You can also try reading all of the various blogs or forums online to see what it the main topic on everyone's mind. After you figure out who or what your target is going to be you then need to find a main theme or hook as some like to call it that is going to keep readers coming back for more. When it comes to these types of columns people love lots of details so make sure that you include plenty of them. You should also make sure that what you write is actually true.

You don't want to be accused about writing lies about a particular website of group of people. Do your research, and if something is not clear then you sure make sure that you indicate that in your article. You should also remember that when it comes to gossip it is all about what you think and how you feel. It may also be a good idea to include some of your reader's opinions in your article, or at the close of your article. While some people consider this form of writing to be intrusive and sometimes cruel, yours does not have to be. In can be an interesting article full of information that keeps readers coming back for more. If you are considering writing your own gossip column why not sit down and brains storm about what you will be writing. Draw out some type of game plan for your article, and then make it happen. Your best option would be to go for an online audience first instead of trying to go straight to print.
