How to Create Post-It Note Art

Ever thought that your office was looking a little drab and boring? All you need to spice up your office is a load of creativity, about 3 dollars worth of post it notes, and a few hours. Post-it notes create wonderful temporary art installations, and all of you coworkers will be jealous of your office. There are a number of methods you can take in order to cheer up your office with post it notes.

Before we go onto the methods, it is important to have the proper materials. First, you need to scale the size of the art you would like. Are you planning on covering a whole office, or just one wall? Will all of the art be concentrated in one place? Will there be much white space with the art? If you plan on creating solid pictures, than it is good to calculate about 100 squares for a one foot square block. Be sure to pick the correct color sticky notes for your office art. Single color post it notes, although classic; do not look that beautiful alone. I chose to find a pack of sticky notes containing hot pink and orange sticky notes. If you plan on leaving the piece of office art in place for a very long time, than it is probably a good idea to purchase the new "super sticky" sticky notes, otherwise the installation will start to slowly fall apart after a few weeks.

When choosing a location for your piece of chic office art, it is best to avoid direct sunlight and rapid temperature changes. Any art placed on windows, despite being beautiful, will more than likely deteriorate in a week or two. When the temperature changes to rapidly then the glue that is holding the sticky notes to the walls will quickly become ineffective. You will not be rewarded with a wonderful piece of art, but instead punished with 400+ post it notes to pick up.

Basic designs are easy and look wonderful, but if you want to do some more work it is quite possible to convert any picture into post it art. The first step is taking the picture into Photoshop (or another advanced image editing program that you are familiar with). After that you need to pixalize the picture. Then after that you need to put a grid over the image. Finally you convert the colors to much a palette of the post it notes that you have available to you. In order to help you put all of the post it notes up you can print out images of the edited picture. If, however, a projector is available to you, then it is far more efficient to project the edited image onto the wall, and fill in the colors with post it notes.

Post it notes are an easy, fun way to increase office moral and productivity. After reading this how to article, you should be more than capable of adding a little bit of cheer to your office.
