How to Create a Romantic Bedroom Fantasy for Valentine's Day

Get Creative with Arabian Nights or a Live Sushi Bar

Staying in this Valentine's Day? Go beyond roses and candles to really transform your bedroom into a romantic love nest.

Cozy up to the fire

Turn any television screen into a roaring fire with DVDs like Ambient Fire or the Living Fireplace. Use the video footage of real, flickering fires to add a romantic ambient glow and the crackle of a real fire to your bedroom on Valentine's Day. Bonus: reuse the fireplace DVD during Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

Arabian Nights

Transform your bedroom into a Valentine's Arabian Nights fantasy. Gossamer, tulle, and shimera will make a big impact by layering a color palette of Valentine favorite hues like reds and pinks. Move the bed frame out of the room and put the mattress on the floor in the center. Gather long pieces of gossamer to a point and hang over the bed. Drape the lengths down around the mattress like mosquito netting. Add big, fluffy pillows in jewel-tones and lots of soft sheets. Use trays to serve wine and finger-foods you can feed to each other all night.

Make Erotic Art

Use Valentine's night to make some erotic artwork for your bedroom. Avant-garde photos of your bodies can be done tastefully and artfully with a digital camera and access to photo editing software. Use a tripod to capture the soft, ambient light without blur. Take turns photographing each other nude or partially clothed. Experiment with close-ups, face shots, and erotic poses. Edit the pictures in black and white or sepia tones, print, and frame them for your walls.

Bring in a hot tub

Re-create a Western-style saloon bath with a huge metal basin. Place a layer of plastic on the floor before bringing in the metal washtub. Lay some fuzzy rugs down to disguise the plastic. Fill the tub with buckets of steaming water and bubbles. Keep a few extra buckets of hot water nearby to add as needed. Have fun with Western saloon girl outfits, cowboy hats, and plenty of Jack Daniels.

Be a live sushi bar

Bring some California style to your bedroom by serving yourself as a live sushi bar. Grab sushi take-out from your sweetie's favorite Japanese restaurant. Make sure you are clean and freshly shaven. Time it so you can prepare yourself shortly before your partner comes home. Spread clean sheets on the floor or over the top of your bed. Lie down flat and arrange pieces of sushi on your belly, legs and chest. You can go naked, wear a kimono, or lay faux leaves over parts of your body. Set the tone with soft Japanese music in the background.
