How to Create an RSS Feed for Your Associated Content Articles on Feedburner

And Earn Money from Your Feed Subscribers Using Google Adsense

Many Associated Content Producers are familiar with the "subscribe" option where they receive email notifications when a favored content producer writes a new article. While this is helpful for associated content users, many non-associated content users would be aggravated they would need to create an account to sign up for this feature. One of the ways to work around this is to offer a feed of your most recent articles through a site such as Feedburner.com.

Feedburner.com is a popular website that burns "feeds" of regularly updated content such as news articles and blog posts. These feeds will make it possible to have new posts emailed to you or you can choose to read this information in a feed reader without having to actually visit a web page. Since Feedburner was recently acquired by Google for some large sum of money, you can now monetize your feed and email subscriptions by including Google Adsense ads.

Here is a step-by-step tutorial of creating a feed through feedburner with your associated content articles:

1. Go to the "My Account" tab at the top of the website. You will see a section on the right hand side that says "My Tools" - Click on it.

2. Click on the tab that says Content Widgets.

3. Click on the icon for Spring Widgets.

4. This will take you to a site where you can create a box that displays your latest content in the form of a widget you can place on your websites and profile pages. It you don't already have this widget on your website or profile pages on other websites, you may want to consider adding it!

5. On the spring widgets page you will see a box with a long url that looks something like this: http://www.associatedcontent.com/rss/user_120097.xml The url in that box is your feed address.

6. Next you will need to log-in to feedburner.com or create a new account if you have not used the site before. You will see a giant box that says "Start feedburning now, type your feed or blog url below". This is where you will copy your feed url from step #5 an paste it into your box.

7. Feedburner will then walk you through the necessary steps to make your feed go live.

8. Once the feed is live, click on the "Publicize" tab. On the left hand side you will see a button that says "Email Subscriptions". Click on here and then click on the activate button. Make sure you also click the "Save Button".

9. On this page you will see a box that says "Subscription Link Code" . You will see a bit of html code with your email subscription link. This link will look something like this: http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/emailverifySubmit?feedId=1994756&loc=en_US. This is your new email subscription Feedburner feed!

10. To monetize your feed, entering your Google AdSense information in the Monetize tab. If you do not have a Google AdSense account yet, you can create one by visiting http://www.google.com/adsense.

Now that you have your monetized Feedburner feed of your articles your next step is to promote it. You can place the email subscription link to your feed on your website. blog, or profile. You can include this link at the end of email messages, on comment forms, or even at the end of your associated content articles as I am going to write at the end of this one. Anywhere you have a chance to place your link could be a potential way of finding a new subscriber!

Another great perk of having a feedburner feed is you can now track and analyze where your readers are coming from. You can also send them a follow up email thanking them for subscribing to your feed. Be careful not to send them emails constantly or you'll find yourself losing readers instead of gaining them.

While it may seem like a lot of steps, it actually only takes about 15-20 minutes to set up and before long can help you earn additionally with your Associated Content articles. Obviously this may not be for everybody, but it may be something worth considering if you are looking for new ways to gain loyal readers.
