Safari theme ideas: Embellish the walls
If the walls of your living room or den are already painted a neutral color, adding a safari theme is as simple as buying an African inspired wallpaper border. You can find bold graphic African print borders which will really transform a room and turn it into a safari themed retreat. If you can't find safari themed wallpaper borders locally, there are a variety of online sites that offer a good selection. If you paint your walls to enhance the safari theme, think in terms of sunlit gold, soft tans, and golden oranges.
Safari theme ideas: African art prints
Enhance walls with safari themed art prints of native African animals such as giraffes or zebras or an interesting jungle or desert print. Choose colors that will coordinate with your African inspired wallpaper border and the color of your walls. Keep the number of art prints to a minimum to avoid making the room too busy. Safari themed rooms look best with a few bold pieces of art work on the walls.
Safari theme ideas: Natural wood furniture
If you can afford it, furnish your room with hand carved, natural wood African furniture. Instead of a couch, choose a Wandal Moorish bench or a Damas bench. These pieces add an authentic look and feel to a safari themed room. Add some African wooden barrel stools and African long leg wooden tables to play up the Safari theme. If authentic, these pieces can be excellent investments and will last a lifetime.
Safari theme ideas: African pottery and table art.
Place an arrangement of natural reeds in a hand painted Kenyan ceramic planter. African ceramic pots are often painted with abstract designs of animals in bold shades of dessert yellow and sunset orange which can add vibrancy and character to any room. You can also find boldly colored soapstone vases and sculpture which will add character and color to a living room or den.
Safari theme ideas: Other accessories
To complete your safari theme, scatter a few old African baskets and animal carvings around the room to add interest. Add some plush pillows and throw blankets with animal skin graphics and your new safari room will be as comfortable as it is beautiful.
If you're not accustomed to the safari look, keep the look simple at first without going too heavy on the animal prints and accessories. You can always add more over time. Sometimes having few, higher quality pieces that really make a statement is best for creating a safari theme.
