How to Create a Successful T-Shirt Business

Getting Great Results in the T-Shirt Business

Jordan Smith
I have been supplementing my income now for over two years in the t-shirt business. I have found that this business can be a very lucrative one. The first thing I did was to make sure that I had all of my paper work in order. I applied for and received my business license and I also applied for my sales and use tax id number. This allows me to purchase some of my items at wholesale price. I'm also able to charge tax. You would need to contact your state's Department of Revenue office to find out what your state requirements are.

I was able to start my business with $1,000.00. The most expensive item I purchased was the heat press. It was $700.00. After you have searched around to find a good heat press that will fit your budget, you will need to find a company where you can purchase your t-shirts at a wholesale price. I was very fortunate to find a t-shirt company in a near by city that sold their shirts wholesale. This worked out perfect for me, because I was able to place my order over the phone and pick up my t-shirts the next day. This really cut down on the two to three days waiting period and not to mention the shipping charges.

I then began to search the web for a company that I could purchase my heat transfers from. I was able to find two companies that was pretty reasonable Pro-World and Smartwear. Pro-World heat transfers can be found online. Smartwear heat transfers are located in their mailed out catalog. I ordered my heat transfers and in about four days I was ready to start. I must admit it was by trial and error, but once I got the hang of how to operate the heat press, such as getting the required temperature, it was smooth sailing. This turned into a family function, because my children are able to participate.

Selling at homecoming games has increased my income greatly. Sororities and Fraternities t-shirts at these functions are my best sellers.

Church events-Selling Christian t-shirts at church conferences, banquets and musical events also does very well.

Going to flea markets on the weekend is going pretty well. Depending on where you live you can also sell them in your yard.

Online is another way to increase your income, however you would need to advertise so that people will know where and how to purchase your t-shirts online.

These are just a few options to explore, now that you know what has worked for me, find what will work for you. Much success.
