How to Create a Unique and Memorable Mother's Day Gift for Free

You Can Make the Perfect Mother's Day for Free or Nearly Free

Colleen Starr
This year more and more people are forced to strictly budget all of their money. You can create a truly memorable and unique Mother's Day gift for free or nearly free.

1. Create a video montage of pictures for your mother or the Mom in your life.

Items need to make this nearly free Mother's Day gift: Old photos and videos, some good music tracks, scanner, computer with video making software and 1 blank recordable DVD.

Almost all computers have a program to create your own videos now. If you have a computer that uses Windows, try using Windows Movie Maker. If your computer is a Mac tryiMovie or iDvd.
Scan old pictures through any current pictures you have. If you do not own a scanner ask to borrow one from a friend. You can also add any videos your have. Ask any family to send you pictures they may have. You can easily create a free Photobucket account for out of town family to upload their pictures to.

Next pick some good music that will fit touch Mom's heart. Some of my favorite music for this:
"Over the rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwoole, "These are the days" by the 10,000 Maniacs, "We are family" by Sister Sledge, "If I had a million dollars" by Barenaked Ladies and "Our house" by Madness. Now all you need to do is add some titles and special effects between scenes. Burn the movie to a DVD and you are all done.

The time you spend on this free Mother day gift will vary from as little as 2 hours to over 10 hours depending on how many pictures you scan, the music and titles. This video should only cost you the cost of a blank DVD and many people already have those on hand.
In my experience this free Mother's Day gift will more mean more to your Mom or wife then if you had spent thousands. I got together with my brothers and sisters to make one for my mom and there was not a dry eye in the house as we watched the movie together.

2. Giver her your time.

Cook Mom breakfast in bed and let her take the day off, This idea is especially good idea for Mothers of young children.

Offer to help her with a project she has been wanting to do like plant new flowers in the garden.

3. Take a family portrait of your family or the kids to give to her.

Ask a friend to help you with a family portrait or even set the self timer. If you are making a Mother's Day gift for your wife, take a nice picture of the kids as a surprise. Add the photo to a frame and let the kids make their own wrapping paper.

4. Write her a letter from the heart.

Too often we get so busy that we forget to say thank you to our mothers. If you are a husband, thank your wife again for your beautiful children.
