What to include on the website
Some websites are very basic and simply include a picture of the couple, information about how they met each other, their engagement story, and the date and location of their wedding. Other sites are more elaborate and include more specific information such as a list of the attendants, details about travel plans and accommodations, maps and pictures of the locations of the wedding and reception, links to pictures of the bridesmaid dresses, and even wedding registry information. Some sites even provide an option for guests to RSVP. Many websites also provide options for the couples to password protect all or certain portions of the site.
How to set up the site
There are a number of online sites that serve as hosts for wedding websites. Many of them offer templates so that even a beginner can easily create a site. Before creating your site, spend some time browsing other wedding websites online to get a feel for your options. Think about what you would like to do with your site. Are you looking for a personalized domain, password protection, and a wedding countdown? Do you want a site with basic pre-made templates or a site that you can personalize by adding music and photos? Will you continue to use and update the site after your wedding (perhaps with pictures from your honeymoon or of your new home) or will it be for short term use while you are planning the wedding? Are you willing to spend money to create a site and if so, how much?
On the popular wedding planning site TheKnot.com, you can create a basic page from a template that includes a picture, information about your wedding, online RSVP, and guestbook for free. Family and friends can easily search for and access your page on the site. The site offers basic functionality and is a good option if you don't want to spend a lot of money.
TheWeddingTracker.com is dedicated to hosting personal wedding websites and allows you to create a "premium" site to commemorate your special day. For $60, you can purchase a one year subscription that includes a domain address, planning software, a number of customizable templates, and the capability to upload photos and order prints.
Ewedding.com offers a free package, a monthly subscription which can be purchased for $9.95 per month, and an annual subscription $89. The monthly and annual subscriptions offer unlimited access to all of the features on the site. The main differences between the free and paid subscriptions are: ability to create photo albums and an online guestbook as well as the ability to include extra information such as links to wedding registries, information about vendors, and information about the honeymoon and wedding party.
WedoRama.com allows you to purchase a subscription for $70 that includes a domain address, ability to upload photos, videos, and music, and a number of other features such as an online wedding countdown. The sample templates are spectacular. If you are looking to impress family and friends with your page and don't mind spending the money, this site is the way to go.
Let your family and friends know
After you have created your wedding website, be sure to share the news with family and friends. Some couples choose to send out an e-mail with a link to their site while other couples will send out a "save the date" letter or postcard with a link to the site.

Post a CommentVery informative article for Engaged Couples! What a cool concept for keeping in touch during a busy and stressful time with wedding planning! Thanks!
Nice article...I see even the Internet folks have found a way to get money out of those getting married. The one thing I would caution is to keep up with your site. I have found with the new baby sites that the new parents are often too busy to even go back and look at their sites once the new bundle of joy has arrived. If people can leave messages on your site, or ask for directions, or any sort of message that requires a response, you want one of the wedding group members to keep the site updated. Once again, great article.
I would have really been into this if it was around when I was enganged. However, I don't know if I would have had enough info for a whole website. We had a pretty low-key wedding by some of today's standards.
Great article. Fortunately I don't have to worry about this since I'm already married. IT's a neat concept though.
These are really the rage these days. I know several couples who are getting married over the summer and have them. Last year, I didn't know anyone with one. It's nice to be able to get to know members of the wedding party.
