There are many ways in which you can change the way your garden looks and feels without needing the services of costly professionals, or risking making a mess of your garden through a limited budget. Take a look around the house, garden-shed, attic or even the rubbish bin. You can find many articles that can add some special touch to your drab garden. Even where your garden is well-looked after, you can still make a splash with just a few additions. Do not limit your choices, everything and anything can do. Let me take you through just a few ideas to get your imagination into operation!
Take those old pots, perhaps an old sink or rusty tub: get some bright paint and let your little Picassos's have a field day. They will not only enjoy the experience, but will also give your painting an uninhibited élan. The work will have cost you nothing, but easily rival that of very expensive experts. Some of the items can be left unpainted to give an old abandoned look or to make the piece blend into shaded areas.
Try growing some plants in the pieces you collected. Make sure that they have sufficiently large holes to enable good drainage. There are no rules as to which plant can be grown in what kind or shape of a container.
You may decide that some water is a must in your garden. The big old tub can do quite well. With a little imagination, you can make a fountain or two using the many pieces at your disposal. If you are living where water is plentiful, you can give your creativity a chance to show.
Try out some creeping plants. They do rather well with supports like ladders, frames (old bed frames perhaps), trellises or whatever you have to use. You could add the old wheelbarrow or used up mower too.
How about some light? Candles can make a garden look fantastic in the night time. You can even put some candles up trees, in bushes or just dot them around the garden. How about some of those solar lanterns? Stick them strategically around the garden, they will recharge during the day and give off light at night.
Anything can be used as a candle holder. Putting some color, bright sticker or even foil on a cat-food container, can make good pieces for the garden.
Put up some blocks of wood, stumps or logs for seating to add a country feel. Stones and rocks can also do the trick. Smooth pebbles go well in flower beds and along walkways. Why not come up with other exotic places for the stones and rocks?
For a really lovely garden, space is not an issue. The variety and good spacing, at least 2 feet, of the plants can transform even a small area into a wonderful landscape. Plants that share the same pest or disease should be very far apart.
By simply using your imagination and the ideas mentioned above, you can create a great, wonderful garden masterpiece with minimal technical know-how and very little financial outlay.
