How to Crochet an Elegant Evening Dress for a Doll

This beautiful crocheted evening dress will fit a 13" to 14" inch porcelain or vinyl doll. This article also give directions on making the jewelry and hair piece the doll is wearing. This crochet pattern is easy if you have knowledge of the basic crochet stitches and standard sewing. Depending on your skill level, and how fast you crochet, this dress and accessories can be made in one day.

Elegant Evening Doll Dress

Supplies:

5 1/2 oz. of lavender yarn
1 - 8 mm bead cap
1 small pearl bead
6 - 7 mm purple stones
5 purple silk flowers or violets
Small amount of baby's breath
Few small pieces of gold bead wire
1 barrel clasp
Size G hook (4 1/2 mm)
Scissors
2 inch plain barrette
13" - 14" doll
Glue gun
Glue sticks
Yarn needle

Crochet Abbreviations:

pat - pattern
ch - chain
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
sts - stitches
lp - loop
lps - loops
yn - yarn
rds - rounds
rep - repeat
trc - triple crochet
tog - together
yo - yarn over
aro -around
sl st - slip stitch
acr - across
nt - next
dec - decrease
inc - increase
sc - single crochet

Gauge:

4 dc - 1 inch
5 sc - 1 inch

Directions:

Crocheted Dress - All work is done on the back lps. (loops away from you)

Row 1 - Ch 35, sc in second ch from hook, and each ch acr, Ch 1, turn.
Rows 2-4 - Sc in each sc acr. Ch 1, after each row. (34 sc)
Row 5 - Sc in nt 9 sc, ch 4, skip 5 sc, sc in nt 6 sc, ch 4, skip nt 5 sc, sc in last 9 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 6 - Sc in each sc acr. Ch 1, turn. (32 sc)
Row 7 - Rep row 6.
Row 8 - Dec over nt 2 sc, (To dec yo and draw up a lp on the next 2 sc, there should now be three lps on the hook, yo and pull yarn through all 3 lps -dec made.) Sc in each sc acr to the last 2 sc, dec over these 2 sc. Ch 1.
Rows 9-11 - Sc in each sc, ch 1 after rows 9 and 10. After row 11, join the row to the beginning ch 1. Ch 3. (30 sc)
Row 12 - Dc in each sc. Join, ch 3. (30 dc)
Row 13 - Dc in each dc. Join, ch 3. (30 dc)
Row 14 - Repeat row 13, Join, ch 3. (30 dc)
Row 15 - Make 3 dc in each dc. Join, ch 3. (90 dc)
Rows 16-20 - Dc in each dc. Join, ch 3 after each row.
Row 21 - Make 2 dc in each dc aro. Join, ch 3. (180 dc)
Row 22 - Dc in each dc aro. Join. Cut yarn, then weave in the ends.

Dress Ruffles:

Row 1 - Join yarn to the back of the dress where row 14 was joined, Ch 3.
Row 2 - Make 2 dc in each front lp aro. Join, ch 3. (60 dc)
Row 3 - Dc in each dc aro. Join. Cut yarn, then weave in the ends.
Row 4 -
Join yarn to the back of the dress where row 15 was joined. Ch 3.
Row 5 - Make 2 dc in each front lp aro. (180 dc)
Row 6 - Dc in each dc aro. Join, ch 3. Cut yarn, then weave in the ends.

Dressing the Doll

Put the dress on the doll, then sew up the back. With the doll facing you, glue three purple flowers to the right of the dress. Place the flowers right above the first ruffle. Glue a purple stone to the center of each flower. The picture can help you with the placement of the flowers.

Decorated Barrette

Glue the baby's breath to the top of the barrette. Glue the remaining flowers on the baby's breath. Glue a purple stone to the center of each flower. Pull one side of the doll's hair back. Secure the hair with the barrette.

Doll Necklace

Row 1 - Slide a piece of bead wire through the last chain. Take the other end of the wire and slide it through one end of the barrel clasp. Twist ends together, then cut off excess wire. Repeat this step for the other side of the necklace.
Row 2 - Slide a piece of bead wire through the center chain, then slide the wire through the bead cap. Twist ends together, then cut off excess wire.
Row 3 - Slide another piece of bead wire through the bead cap, then through the pearl. Twist ends together, then cut off excess wire.

Place the necklace around the doll's neck.
