Things you will need:
5 yards 54 inch wide fabric
Scissors
Ruler
Q crochet hook
Prepare the fabric:
Cut 2 inch strips across the width of the fabric. Cut a small slit about a 1/2 inch from both ends on each strip. With the right sides of the fabric strips facing up, place the end of the joining strip over the end of the beginning strip, matching the slits. Insert the free end of the joining strip through both slits from the bottom to the top. Pull the strips slightly to form a knot. Continue to join all strips.
Rug Heart Body
Row 1
Chain 2, 5 single crochet in second chain from hook. (5sc).
Row 2
Turn. Chain 2, half double crochet in the same stitch, half double crochet in next 3 single crochet, 2 half double crochet in last single crochet. (7 hdc)
Row 3-12
Repeat row 2, 10 times. Do not finish off. (27 hdc).
Left Heart Top
Row 1
This is the right side. Chain 2 (count as first hdc), half double crochet in next 12 half double crochet, slip stitch in next half double crochet. Leave the remaining 13 half double crochet unworked. (13 hdc).
Row 2
Turn, slip stitch in the first half double crochet, chain 2, half double crochet in each half double crochet across. (12 hdc).
Row 3
Turn, skip first half double crochet, half double crochet in each half double crochet across to the last half double crochet, slip stitch in last half double crochet.(10 hdc).
Row 4
Repeat Row 3. Finish off. (8 hdc)
Right Heart Top
With the wrong side facing, join the fabric strip with a slip stitch in the first half double crochet stitch on Row 12 of the heart body.
Rows 1-4
Repeat rows 1-4 of the left top.
Edging
With the right side facing, connect the fabric strip with a slip stitch in the last slip stitch on Row 1 of both the left and right heart top side. Single crochet in the slip stitch, and in each stitch and row end around the heart rag rug. Slip stitch in the beginning single crochet and finish off. Weave in the end on the back.
