L Poulson
The long tailed pixie hat is hugely popular among pattern makers and yarn fans everywhere. People adore its cuteness and its quite fun to make. Here is my simple and free pattern of how to make a long tailed pixie hat for a newborn!

Sport weight yarn
I hook
stitch marker

Stitches used.
CH-Chain
HDC- Half double Crochet
FPHDC- Front post half double crochet
BPHDC- Back post half double crochet

Pixie tail
Magic circle
Ch2 place 6 DC in magic circle, join, and pull the tail to tighten.
Working in a spiral place 1 HDC in the join stitch and 6 HDC around, place a stitch marker to note your starting place and work in a continued spiral of 7 stitches for 30 rows. To close, place one single crochet, then slip stitch to stop your spiral.

Hat itself
Ch2 HDC in same place as chain, place 8 HDC around. Join.

Round2-CH2 9 HDC around Join do not turn
R3- Ch 2 10 HDC around ( put 2 hdc in same place you chained two. At the end Join to the first HDC not the chain2)
R4 ch2 HDC in same place as chsp,* HDC 1 in next stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch around* Join to first HDC
R5 ch2 HDC in same place as Chain * HDC 1 in next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch* around Join to first HDC

R9 Ch2 HDC in same place as chain* HDC 1 in next 6 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch* around, join to first HDC
R9 Ch2 HDC in same place as chain* HDC 1 in next 7 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch* around, join to first HDC
End of the increase rows. You will now work in the round as a spiral. Use a stitch marker to mark the start of the rounds
R=10-15
When you are at end of your 6th round, count back 5 stitches from the place where you marked your start place. put 3 sc and 2 slip stitches to finish off the round.

ENDING 1
R16- 17 Ch2 Front post half double crochet, back post half double crochet around to create the ribbing effect.
ENDING 2
HDC around for rows 16-17 for a solid brim.

Make a pom pom and tie to the end of your long tail. You now have a newborn sized long tailed pixie hat. This pattern is easy to size up by using a larger hook and larger sized yarn.
