St. Patrick's Day is on the horizon and it is a perfect holiday to show off your crochet creativity. While many will sport a nice green tie or scarf, few will have thought ahead enough to create something as special as a leprechaun hat. This holiday is one where showing off your Irish spirit is highly encouraged and it is always fun to sport a style few others are wearing.

If you are going out to celebrate St. Patrick's Day this year, you might want to consider making this adorable leprechaun hat. It will take only a few hours to crochet and it is sure to be a crowd pleaser. It is a simple pattern that only requires knowing how to single stitch and double stitch crochet. It is also a nice warm hat that is perfect for early chilly weather. To create this leprechaun hat, simply follow the directions below.

What you will need :
1. One Medium sized crochet needle
2. One pair of Scissors
3. Less than a one ball of green, black, and gold yarn.
4. One Flexible Tape Measure

How to crochet the Leprechaun Hat :
First, you will want to measure the circumference of your head. You will then want to crochet a solid green circle the same circumference as your head measured. You will start with two single stitches and then double stitch around them till you reach your desired measurement.

Next, crochet two four inch wide strips the same length as your head measurement and one two inch strip the same length. You will also need to crochet one four inch wide black strip the same length. Be sure to keep all of your crochet stitches tight and uniform.

You will need to attach one four inch wide green strip to the circle with a single stitch all along the edge and follow that by doing the same with the black four inch strip and the other green four inch strip. Each of these strips should be attached using a single tight stitch.

After all four inch strips are connected , add the two inch green strip with a very tight single stitch. This strip needs to be attached with the tightest stitches possible to ensure that you can bend it out to look like the flap at the bottom of the hat.

You will then have only one seam to connect that runs up the back of the hat with another tight single stitch. You can start at the very bottom with green yarn and make a cut to change to black yarn. Cut the yarn once more to change back to green as you stitch up to the very top of the hat. End your final stitch by poking it through to the inside of the hat and make a double knot to secure it inside.

Finally, use your gold yarn to double or single stitch a buckle that centers on the black strip yet, overlaps onto the green strips above and below. You can finish off the buckle by either making a tiny bow in the center, or by poking the yarn through to the inside of the hat. Make one single stitch on the inside of the hat and make a double knot to secure.

You will be the hit of any St. Patrick's Day party you attend when you arrive wearing this homemade crochet Leprechaun Hat. You might also want to add details of shamrocks or gold coins to make this simple pattern unique and your own. Get as creative as you dare and show off your Irish spirit in fun and bright designs or sayings.

This St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun Hat will sit a full foot high on top of your head. There is plenty of room to design it to fit your own personal style. Consider weaving some bright ribbons into your crochet stitches. You could also add inexpensive gold beads to give the look of lucky Irish gold.

A photo of the finished hat would have been nice, and maybe a patern that was written out would be a good idea also. P.s have you ever done crochet? You use a hook, not a needle. Needles are for knitting.
