How to Cure Acne

Jeff Smith
The skin oil glands are blocked for reasons unknown and cause acne. Changes in sex hormones experienced by teenagers play an unmistakable role. Contrario to popular belief, acne is not caused by dirt or food. However, cleaning the infected area can help.

Acne is characterized by the appearance by pimples in the skin, usually on the cheeks, forehead and back:: Blackheads (black dots the size of a pin)
Whiteheads (white dots)
Pustules (small lesions)
Cysts (larger swelling of the skin) and
Abscess (swollen glands in a small infected area)

What Causes Acne?
Exposure to high temperatures.
Stress.
Oily skin.
Endocrine disorders.
Drugs such as cortisone and male hormones.
Family history of acne.
Some cosmetics acids.

Treatment
Treatment is usually medical. Gently massage the face with an unscented soap during a period of 3 to 5 minutes. Use the following techniques:
Clean the skin gently.
Do not use abrasives.
Apply a disinfectant such as alcohol and degreaser to remove grease after washing.

Prevention
Use a new towel every day.
Wash your hair with shampoo at least 2 times a week.
Keep your hair off your face.
Using anti-dandruff shampoo to combat or prevent dandruff.
Avoid hair creams.
After physical excercise, wipe the sweat and grease quickly.
Avoid cosmetics that are heavy.
Avoid creams and cosmetics unless prescribed by a doctor.
Do not pull or scratching the skin.

For more severe cases:
Removal of pimples can be done by a physician.
Controlled exposure to ultraviolet light administered by a doctor may be helpful.
Cosmetic surgery (skin abrasion) may be recommended to remove the scares after the treatments.

Medication
Your doctor may prescribe, in moderate to severe cases, one of the following:
Lotion 5% or 10% of benzyl-peroxidase.
Local application of antibiotic lotions such as clindamycin or erythromycin.

Complications
Even without overinfected, the most severe lesions (cystic acne) can leave scars. The residual scars can be removed by dermabrasion.

Acne effects millions of people a year. With the proper treatment, it can be cured.
