Dark circles can be caused by a number of factors. One is heredity and genetics. Stress and fatigue also play a large part. And your health as far as vitamin deficiencies. In this day and age, we don't often follow our mother's sage advice: Get 8 hours of sleep, drink plenty of water, and see your doctor regularly. Our lives are too busy with kid's and job responsibilities. Aside from the lack of time, there are spa's and beauty salons to pamper us, but who can really afford that expense! Here are some tips for things you can do at home to help relieve the dark circles under the eye.

1. Tea bags(specifically black tea)
2. Cucumber slices
3. A cold pack face mask(the kind you refrigerate)
4. Under eye concealer in yellow or peach undertones.

Number one: Look at your family traits. Did your mother or grandmother have the same problem? If so then it is probably heredity. Are you getting enough sleep? Nobody hardly gets the standard 8 hours, but 5-6 being the average. Try to figure out the cause of the problem.

Ask your doctor to check for vitamin or iron deficiencies. The purple coloring in the skin is similar to bruising, so it could have something to do with blood circulation. Dark circles under the eye can mean that your body isn't getting the necessary nutrients.

Treating under eye circles is relatively easy. Cucumber slices are very cooling to the skin and soothing. Tea bags can also be used. Make a cup of tea and then remove the tea bag to cool or place in the freezer for a few minutes to hasten the chilling process. Place the cold tea bags on your eyes and lay down for about 10 minutes. The tea bags contain a substance called tannin which also help with dark eye circles. There really is no eye cream on the market that can replace sleep and good nutrition. You don't want to mask dark circles, you want to eliminate them.

A refrigerated cold pack mask also helps to relieve circles and puffiness. Sometimes these two go hand in hand. The dark circles may make you appear tired or even age your appearance.

Under eye concealer in yellow or peach tones can cover dark circles. Check with your local stores for under eye cream which helps to diminish dark circles.

And make sure to drink plenty of water as this helps with hydration and puffs up the skin under the eyes which lessens the dark coloring.

Get good nutrition. Make sure you are eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially the leafy green vegetables. Good sources of vitamin C and Iron. Keep your nutrition high, keep stress as low as possible drink plenty of fluids and you should be able to banish those dark circles for good!

Remember your mother's sage advice: Plenty of sleep, 8 glasses of water a day, and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. And see your doctor regularly.
