The first is to save money on your energy bill. There is nothing worse that I dread is opening the electric bill in august. Granted, I live in Nevada so that is to be expected, but it is still never fun to look at that. Simple things like making sure you do not leave the lights on or turning the television off when you are not watching it can make a difference. Try turning your air conditioning up a degree or two can make a huge difference.
Making sure you home is weather proof will help. You do not need any drafts in your windows and doorways when you live in Minnesota in January. It will make your floors cold and it will drive the heating bill up. Talk with your energy company for other suggestions to cut the costs down. Often, you can pay evenly throughout the year so you do not have to pay the price in the premium months. This will help prevent any unexpected bills.
Call you telephone company provider and see if you can bundle several services together. Now there are some companies you can bundle your telephone, cable TV, and internet service all in one bill. Usually, the more services you bundle together on one bill the more money that you can save.
Another way to cut some costs down around the house is with your grocery bill. Preparing food in large quantities and freezing them for later will help. Instead of throwing away all the extra food save them for leftovers. Sometimes it is not always the best meal, but it saves you time and a lot of money. Your children may complain because they are eating the same foods over again, but at the same time you will be teaching them good habits.
Don't do any unnecessary shopping. Do you really need that second blouse, or the newest releases on DVD? When you are on a budget you cannot shop like that. Make sure when you do go shopping you make a list so you know what to buy. And when you do go to the store do not buy anything that wasn't on the list. Planning ahead is the key to saving money.
Shop the sales. You may not be out of toilet paper just yet, but it is on sale. Stock up now and it is one less item you will have to get next time and you just saved a little money. A little money adds up quite a bit. Remember to budget your money and to plan ahead. A little planning ahead of time will help you cut costs around the house quite a bit.
