To cut your own hair you will need:
Sharp Scissors
Towel
Spray Bottle
Preparing your hair. Before doing any cutting, you want to wash your hair. Do not blow dry your hair, instead use the towel to pat it dry. It is necessary when cutting your hair for your hair to remain damp.
Decide on a style. When cutting your hair, it is vital to have a general idea of what you want in your mind. The easiest way to do this is by looking at photos of hair cuts. When you find a style you like, hang it up in front of your or put it in a place where you can refer to it.
Cutting your hair. To begin cutting your hair, take a small section of your hair and pull it straight. Use two fingers, preferably your index and middle finger, and place them where you want to cut. If you are not used to cutting your own hair, then it is best to start cutting a half inch at a time.
Examine your look. As you are cutting your hair, stop every couple of seconds to examine your work. This step will help to assure you are on the right path to a straight hair cut.
Layers. Adding layers to your hair is a painless process. Once you have the desired length, you will want to begin cutting the top layers of your hair at a shorter length. When creating layers, it is crucial to cut at a sharp angle.
Tips and Warnings.
When cutting your hair, stick to one side and then move on to the other side of your head. Do not switch back and forth when cutting your hair.
Try to cut from the front as much as possible. If you have to cut in the back, you will want to use two mirrors and examine your work.
Keep your hair damp. If you hair begins to dry out, use the spray bottle to get your hair wet.
Take your time while cutting your hair to ensure you get an even cut. If you begin to feel nervous or anxious, you should take a break to relax.
If you find yourself in the position of trying to even out your hair, to no avail, stop trying to fix it. If you continue to cut your hair to straighten it out, you will only make it worse and lose the length you want.
Remember, your hair does grow back, and if you make a mistake it can be fixed.

Post a CommentThe first time I tried cutting someone's hair, 11-years-ago. We ended up shaving it all off - it was that bad. Why I am afraid to cut other people's hair now. Thank you all for the comments.

Thanks, a great help:0)!
When my son was three he was brushing my hair. The brush got knotted into my hair. I started crying. Michael was like 'Its okay. Don't cry'. I had long hair, and they had to cut the brush out. I had almost no hair length by the time they were done fixing it. That day I realized it does grow back. LOL. I cut my own, but I won't no body else hair. That scares me.
I cut my husband's, but so far, not my own:)
