Indoor / Outdoor Heart Garland

Supplies you will need:
Craft Glue
Scissors
Fishing String
Thick cardboard
Hole puncher
Craft paint
Glitter

Step 1.

First you will need heart patterns. If you already have something heart shaped to use great, if not you will need to make you own. You need a total of 3 hearts ranging from 5 inches long, to 2 inches long. The exact size is up to you. Once you have all 3 sizes to use for a pattern, you will want to trace them out onto thick cardboard. You will need 3 large hearts for every foot of garland. For every large heart you will also need one of each of the smaller hearts. Once all the hearts are traced out, you need to cut them out.

Step 2.

After all the hearts are cut out, your ready to start punching holes. First start with the large hearts making a hole on each side of each heart, at the larges part, and a home at the bottom. With the smaller heart you will want to punch one hole in the V, and one hole at the bottom. Finally, punch a hole in the V of the smallest heart.

Step 3.

Once all of the holes have been punched out, it's time to paint. Using craft paint in the colors you choose paint each heart. You can either paint them solid or make your own designs on them. Colors such as red, pink, and white looks beautiful together. Allow your paint 3 to 8 hours to dry, then flip them over and paint the other side.

Step 4.

After the paint is completely dry on both sides of the heart, it's glitter time. Using your craft glue trace a design on your hearts, and heavily sprinkle with glitter. You can write names, trace the outline of the hearts, add dots, and more with your glitter. Allow your hearts for dry again overnight, then remove any extra glitter. If you want to glitter both sides of the hearts, you will need to let one side dry for at least 6 hours, before doing the other side.

Step 5.

Now that your hearts are done, your ready to assemble the garland. Using the fishing string or line, cut 8 inch strips. Your hearts will hang 6 inches apart, so this will allow you and inch on each side for tying. After the strips are cut, tie one piece of string to a hole on the side of a large heart. Now tie the other end of that same string to another large heart. Continue this step until all of the large hearts are attached creating your garland, with the large hearts hanging 6 inches apart.

Step 6.

Next you will need to cut 6 inch pieces of string for your smaller hearts. Again, this will allow you and inch on each end to work with. Using one piece of string attach the smaller heart to the larger heart by tying the string to the bottom of the large heart, and to the V of the smaller heart, allowing 4 inches of string between them. Repeat this same step to attach the smaller heart to the smallest heart.

Now your garland is complete, and is ready to hang inside. If you want to use it outdoors you will need to fist spray it with clear coat spray to weather proof your masterpiece. You can purchase clear coat spray at any craft, or paint supply store. This garland looks beautiful at the entrance of a home, draped in a garden, draped over curtain rods, and more.
