How To Make Cutsom Costume Clothes For Your Pet

One thing that pet owners love is that pets love you unconditionally. That also means that they dont care if you get them expensive presents. They dont even care if you get dress them up in funny looking outfits you bought. So they really wont care if you make funny looking gifts for them. Because pets will wear anything you can experiment with them instead of your own family who may not appreciate it as much. Pets are also smaller and it will take less work to make clothes for them. If you make a mistake on a homemade clothing item for a person you could end up wasting you time and have to start over. Pets wont mind little mistakes and you can mess up without having to trash a whole project.

An easy project is to make a simple vest and hat for a dog. The project I am making can be customized. You can make this as a gift for a dog, cat, ferret, even a pet pig. Also I am going to use very simple and cheap materials to make this easier for a beginner to make but you can use other materials as well.

I have a standard Dachshund and going to show you how to make a Native American costume for him for a gift. This is a good outfit for either Halloween or Thanksgiving. You can also modify the instructions to make other costumes as well.

First I get a large brown grocery bag, you can also use fabric if you know how to sew. Take the bag apart at the seams and make a long piece of cardboard, if you buy fabric you can just start with a square piece of fabric. Now wear down the paper by rolling it up over and over to give it a worn leather look and fill. If you have fabric you wont need to do this. Measure the bag so you have a good size bag or fabric.

You now will cut holes out of the bag or fabric for the feet to go into. It is easier to make it a vest that is open at the bottom but you can also have it come around and close up if you want. Using fabric to close it is easy by adding Velcro. You can get different fabric for a similar vest for other holidays. If you make a fabric vest you can even give it to friends who have pets as a gift instead of just a gift for your pet.

To finish off the Native American costume you will want a thin piece for a headband. Just tape or sew this together. Then add in some feathers. For other holidays you can make other hats like a elf or Santa hat with some fabric by either rolling it up in a cone and sewing it up or by taking two triangles and sewing them together.

When you are done you will have a pet gift that you wont find in a store. You can make your pets vest unique for your pet.
