How Dangerous is the Radiation Coming from Your Cell Phone?

You Can Find Studies on the Web and in Magazines that Will Tell You Either Your Cell Phone is Killing You, or that it is Perfectly Safe.

You can find studies on the web and in magazines that will tell you either your cell phone is killing you, or that it is perfectly safe. It is amazing how everything always seems so black and white. Most likely however the truth is somewhere in between. To make finding the truth easier, the FCC has come up with a system for determining the danger level of your cell phone.

The website www.fcc.gov/cgb/sar/will give you all the information you need on the radiation level of our phone. To make this information easier to understand, the FCC has developed the SAR level. An acronym for Specific Absorption Rate, the SAR level tells approximately how much radio frequency energy your body absorbs while using a specific cell phone. An excerpt from the site explains further-

"Working closely with federal health and safety agencies, such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the FCC has adopted limits for safe exposure to radiofrequency (RF) energy. These limits are given in terms of a unit referred to as the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), which is a measure of the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by the body when using a mobile phone. The FCC requires cell phone manufacturers to ensure that their phones comply with these objective limits for safe exposure. Any cell phone at or below these SAR levels (that is, any phone legally sold in the U.S.) is a "safe" phone, as measured by these standards. The FCC limit for public exposure from cellular telephones is an SAR level of 1.6 watts per kilogram (1.6 W/kg)."- FCC.gov Website

It seems there are forerunners in the amounts of energy put out by a cell phone. Another website I found, www.msn.cnet.com has further information regarding cell phones and their SAR levels. The Top five phones with the highest SAR levels are as follows.

Motorola v195 has an SAR level of 1.6

Motorola slvrl6 has an SAR rate of 1.58

Motorola slvrl2 has an SAR rate of 1.54

Motorola c290 has an SAR rate of 1.53

Samsung sgh-c417 has an SAR rate of 1.51

Not all cell phones have such a high absorption rate however. Some are considerably lower, and would probably be your best choice when looking for a new phone. The previously mentioned website, www.msn.cnet.com, has information about these phones as well. The five phones with the lowest SAR levels are as follows.

Lg kg 800 chocolate has an SAR rate of 0.08

Motorola Razr v3x has an SAR rate of 0.13

Samsung sgh-l809 has an SAR rate of 0.32

Bang & Olufsen Serene (Samsung 6gh-e910) has an SAR rate of 0.33

Sanyo rl4930 has an SAR rate of 0.374

So I guess cell phones may never be 100% risk free, however in this world of technology where many people must have the ability to be in contact with one another, it is a good thing when we have the information to help us make fully informed decisions. I hope you find this information useful.
