How is the Date of Easter Determined?

Wondering when Easter 2009 Will Be, Find Out Here!

Terri Beck
Do you ever wonder why Easter does not fall on the same day every year? Easter is supposed to be celebrated the day Jesus was resurrected. So, why is it not always on the same date? The reason for this is basically because nobody knows exactly when Jesus died. Christians wanted Easter to be celebrated around the same time every year. This way it could become a tradition. Many Christian holidays are celebrated this way. Christmas, for example, is one of them; nobody knows when Jesus was born. It was probably not in the winter, however we celebrate it then.

The moon determines the date of Easter. It falls after the full moon; as stated on www.straightdope.com, "Easter falls on the first Sunday subsequent to the first full moon after the vernal equinox (March 21)". The calculations are actually much more complex than this. However, this explanation makes it easy to understand. If you want to learn more details about what day Easter is on, try this site.

So, what day is Easter on this year? Easter 2009 will be on April 12th. If you really want to plan ahead; you can find out the dates for Easter until 2099 here.
