How to Deal with Bad Products You Purchased Online

Prevent Online Store Returns and Exchanges by Following These Tips

Marie Puddu
There are only two kinds of online shoppers: those who have a great instinct and buy good products, and those who don't do their research and end up with a dud. Unfortunately, even the most experienced online shopper like me can still be a victim of a bad product purchase. So what if thsi happens to you? Here are a few tips you should apply the next time you plan on buying stuff on the Internet:

Always read customer reviews

Don't tread on unchartered territory. If there's just one thing bad that's mentioned about the product, think twice about buying it. If you can handle the criticism being put on a product, then you probably should purchase it, but I'm still warning you about what might go wrong. Remember that on the Internet, it's harder to return a product than to buy it. Some people literally wait for months just to get refunded.

Read the return and replacement policy

You either get refunded or your item gets replaced. It's not like going to a brick and mortar store, though, where you just drive back, show your receipt, get your money back -- no questions asked. Online, you have to be really quick to report something that's amiss. Don't procrastinate for days or weeks. In fact, get in touch with the customer service as soon as your item starts working wrong.

Don't procrastinate...communicate!

Here's a little side note on items that you don't get, but are backordered instead: It's more likely that the customer service representatives will respond to your concern if you appeal via Live Chat. Always check an online store's communication channels. I once worried about an item that looked like it has never been processed, and there seemed to be no way to reach the online store's customer service other than email. Thankfully, they sent me a link of my product's tracking number so I know that it has been shipped.

Most often the reason why people are buying bad products is that they did not follow any of these tips I have outlined. If there is a review from anybody that says "you get what you pay for", then you are likely to suffer the same fate. However, though I can't say all cheap stuff are going to break in two days, your best best bet is to always purchase high quality items.
