The World Health Organization defines depression as "a common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration." How to overcome depression?

Sufferers of melancholia crowd the outpatient clinics, the offices of private doctors, or the psychiatric hospitals seeking for appropriate treatment. They are trying all kind of antidepressants, except for one medication for depression- the word of God. It has been prescribed by Doctor Jesus Christ some 2,000 years ago. It can prevent disturbed mood, self-debasing behavior, physical and vegetative symptoms. This spiritual medication will help you overcome sadness, worries, despair, loneliness, apathy, anorexia, insomnia, loss of libido, regressive and self-punitive wishes such as, desire to escape, hide, or die.

1. Medication for worries

Money and financial worries are one of the leading causes of depression in the United States. In a survey conducted by the American Psychological Association, 73% of Americans affirmed that money is their number one source of despair. To those who are desperate because they lost their job, or worried about their future, Jesus told them in Luke 12:22-34: "[...] not to worry about their life, what they will eat; or about their body, what they will wear". Instead they should "come to him, all of them who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and he will give them rest" (Matthew 11:28-30). (NLT)

2. Medication for stress

Financial worries can lead to stress. However, the word of God asks those who feel miserable not "to be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, they should present their requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard their hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7). (NIV)

3. Medication for fear

People are anxious when they feel alone, without refuge or help in time of trouble. God assured them not to be afraid: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand "(Isaiah 41:10). He is their "refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). So give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you (1 Peter 5:7).

The word of God is a perfect antidote against melancholia. It is an oral medication, which can bring you joy and transform your life if you receive it. The prophet Jeremiah declared: "Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and Thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by Thy name, O Lord God of hosts" (Jeremiah 15:16).
