There are many methods available to you for the treatment of fleas on your dog and in your home. The key words here are "many methods". Once you get an infestation of fleas on your pets and in your home, no one action will remove them all. To keep this in prospective we will try and look at some common sense methods for removing these pests.

One of the simplest and the fastest ways to start accomplishing the removal of the fleas is to brush your pet thoroughly. The best approach is to start at the top of the head and work your way down. Remove and destroy the fleas as you find them. First brush in an upward direction and then in a downward direction to cover the area thoroughly. Any loose fleas found on the floor or carpeting need to be disposed of immediately.

A very effective method of killing fleas on your dog is in the bathing process. Do some shopping and try and find the best product to treat your pet. Ideally your looking for a good flea shampoo that is specifically made to kill fleas. Many of the shampoos that are available also contain soothing properties for your pet, such as pyrethrins and tea tree oil, which help to soothe the flea bites.

Some other methods of treating fleas once they have become established in your home are flea powders, flea dips and flea collars. Please be aware that some of these solutions can be quite toxic. You need to sit down and consider your particular situation, such as if you have young children in the home. They can be toxic to the children as well as to the pet that you are trying to treat.

Don't forget to spray the outside of your home for fleas even though you have already treated your pet for fleas. He can go right back outside and pick up new fleas and bring them back in the house. You need to break the repetitive cycle of killing fleas and then reestablishing them right back in your house.

An ideal way of treating the inside of your home is to get a fogger for fleas. Many retail establishments carry just the thing to get the job done. As with all the chemicals that you use to wipe out the fleas, caution needs to be used at all times. Most of these items are highly toxic. When using a fogger always make sure the house contains no children or pets and even aquarium fish.

Another key to flea removal is vacuuming a couple of times a day. Yes, that's going to be a lot of work, but it is one of the primary ways of removing these pests. This includes the furniture too. In addition to this the vacuum bags need to be removed from the vacuum and destroyed.
