How to Deal with Hot and Cold Weather

Ruwan G.
Wow... the weather can be a real pain sometimes. Especially if we aren't prepared for it. And obviously we can't always be ready for everything. But when you do know that its gonna be icy or a scorcher outside, here are a few tips that you can follow to make your day more pleasant. We Humans can adapt to many things; they didn't have air conditioning or thermos bottles back then. These tips are simple enough to follow, so lets go at em.

Hot Weather

1. Water! Water! Water! When it's hot outside, keeping well-hydrated is more important than ever. You are supposed to drink eight 8 oz glasses of water a day, and you need to drink more during a hot day. Bring a water bottle or two that you can drink from periodically.

2. Light Colors/ Light Fabrics: Clothing that has a darker color will absorb more heat, so stick to something lighter. White and light blue would be good colors.

3. Cover Up: Covering up your skin can actually make you cooler by shading you from the sun's rays. Just having a shirt with long sleeves would suffice. Remember to bring a hat.

4. Trim that Hair? Thick hair can definitely make you feel warmer, especially if it's darker colored. Guys might want to consider getting their hair cut or trimmed if they don't want to wear a hat.

5. Don't wear yourself out! Take it slow. Running or making yourself tired outside in the sweltering heat isn't the best idea. Conserve that energy.

Cold Weather

1. Wear Layers: Wearing layers of clothing can actually be more effective at keeping you warm then just wearing a big winter jacket alone. Just wearing a few more T-Shirts will help insulate your body and keep out the cold.

2. Insulate your Face! If you are faced with very cold weather, it would be a good idea to cover your face and/or ears with a scarf. Wouldn't want to get a runny nose now would we?

3. A warm Drink: Well this is kind of obvious but if it's possible take a thermos with hot chocolate, tea, or coffee with you. The liquid warmth can be very soothing.

4. Keep Moving: Don't stay still for too long in very cold weather; keep moving and keep the blood flowing.

Well there you have it. Some simple tips on how to deal with those bake-cookies-on-the-sidewalk days and toes-turning-into-icicles days. While we can't always avoid having to travel through some very unpleasant weather, taking these few simple steps will make your journeys a tad easier and bearable.
