How to Deal with the Humidity in Houston, Texas

Jennifer College-Waldman
If you live in Houston, Texas or if you have visited this city you know that the humidity is almost unbearable. It doesn't have to be though. There are plenty of things you can do to get away from the sticky air. Tips to help with the humidity in Houston are listed below. Hopefully these ideas can help you, they helped me, that's for sure!

Tip Number One:
Stay inside as much as possible. This tip might sound a little silly because everyone knows that being inside helps you get away from weather outside that you do not like, but a lot of people do not realize that when you go in and out multiple times you actually are going to feel the pressure of the humidity even worse than if you just stayed outside for the whole day. Going in and out of hot humid weather and cool inside air causes your skin to become under an immense amount of stress. It also can cause a chill even when it is over one hundred degrees out which no one enjoys. Try to make an effort to go in and out only when you need to. If you have to go in and out to your car for work then try to park in a parking garage or where there is plenty of shade to keep you cool, and not sticky.

Tip Number Two:
Try not to apply lotion. If you have very dry skin then this is not an option for you, but if you put lotion on after the shower just to keep your skin smooth you might want to put that lotion bottle away for the remainder of the summer and wait to bring it out for the winter months. Lotion always leaves a residue on your skin that becomes very sticky when put up against hot and humid weather. This causes you to become a lot stickier then you would be if you just went out in this weather without any lotion on. The same goes for foundation women, foundation contains a lot of oils and lotions which makes your skin heavy, greasy, and sticky in Houston's humid weather.

Tip Number Three:
Always drink plenty of water. Even thought humidity in the air is caused by moisture, way to beat off the sticky effect of humidity is to have plenty of moisture in your body. If you body is full of just as moisture as the weather outside you will notice that you are a lot less sticky then you used to be.

By following these tips you might just avoid the sticky, humid air of Houston, Texas and stay dry this season.
