How to Deal with the Monday Blues

Boost Up Your Spirit on Monday at Work

If you are like most people, you probably go through life saying "Thank God it's Friday, Oh God It's Monday!" Let's face it, it's hard to start a new work week. Many people have a change in mood as Sunday night approaches and passes. While we can't change the fact that we have to go back to work, there are things that can be done to ease this pain.

Begin by enjoying your weekend. There is nothing worse than having to start a new week feeling like you didn't do anything you wanted to do over the weekend. Regardless of what your job is learn to take time on the weekend just for you. If your job requires you to work at home on the weekend consider having a day which you do no work. This day is for you to spend with family and friends. This doesn't mean you have to spend lots of money. It does, however, mean that you do things that help you relax!

Always leave Sunday night free. This is a tip that many people often do not follow. I think however they need to strongly consider it. Who wants to end the weekend working and then start a new work week? Sunday night should be for relaxation and preparation for the new week. If you spend it working you are likely to get more depressed and stressed out about going back to work. Spend Sunday enjoying your last few hours off before you begin a new week.

Avoid going into work early on Monday. Don't leave a desk load of work that will require you to get to work early on Monday to finish. Take the extra time on Friday to get as much work done as possible. This will allow you to sleep later on Monday morning and you will be less apprehensive about going to work.

Have a plan for something special on Monday. Plan an event with your friends such as watching the big game or going to a sporting event. Plan a night out to eat with your spouse. It will be much easier to get through the day knowing you have something to look forward to after work. Also, most business are not as busy on Monday as other days of the weeks. If you go out on this night you will avoid a crowd and have a much more enjoyable experience.

Finally, get to bed on Sunday night. I'm not saying you need to be in bed by 8pm, but find a reasonable time to hit the sack. Staying up late and going into work tired will only make your Monday more dreadful. Also it takes your body a day or so to re-adjust to a new sleep schedule. If you stay up later on Friday and Saturday night, hit the bed earlier on Sunday night.

Monday's are usually not a favorite day for most people. Eliminating stress however will make it more bearable. Soon you will find your self at another Friday!

These are good ideas, however, any day that I am vertical and breathing is a good day for me. :)
