Step 1
Get a complete physical immediately. In some cases, some type of blockage or pressure that prevents the achievement of full relief causes a nervous bladder. Your doctor will know exactly what to look for and can recommend the best course of treatment for your situation.
Step 2
Seek counseling. If there is no physical cause for the nervous bladder, counseling may help to uncover and treat the underlying issue that is leading to the condition. Even if there is a physical reason for the condition, counseling may help you to cope while you and your doctor decide on what to do next.
Step 3
Consider medication. There are several prescription medications that are helpful in treating a nervous bladder. Your doctor can assess your situation and determine which one has the best chance of working in your case. Be sure to understand any potential side effects and report to your doctor if anything unusual occurs once you start taking the medication.
Step 4
Don't rule out surgery. Depending on the type of blockage or the origin of the pressure, your physician may determine that surgery is in your best interests. If this is the case, schedule the surgery as soon as possible, so you can minimize the chances for any type of ongoing damage to your body.
Tips & Warnings
There is always the chance that you are dealing with a form of nervous bladder that is know as a "shy" bladder. Essentially, this means you have difficulty using a public restroom. Counseling can help with this form of social phobia. If you have a problem with urination, do not assume it will go away. See a doctor and get to the bottom of the issue. You will save yourself a lot of frustration and discomfort.
