What is it that causes skin problems during pregnancy? Plainly and simply, it is the changing hormone levels in the pregnant woman's body that can cause skin problems. High levels of progesterone and estrogen tend to cause the skin to be more oily than usual. This, in turn, then makes pores more likely to become plugged up and form acne. Skin problems during pregnancy are so commonplace that many women who haven't experienced any skin problems whatsoever since their teenage years will experience skin problems again during pregnancy.
So, what can you do about it? How do you deal with skin problems during pregnancy? While you can't stop skin problems and acne altogether during pregnancy, there are several steps you can take to help reduce their impact:
* Stay away from fatty foods. These foods, of course, are known to aggravate skin problems. There is a good chance that they would aggravate your morning sickness, as well. Whenever possible, choose lean meats and especially avoid deep fried foods of any sort whatsoever.
* Wash and care for your skin daily. Use a high-quality skin cleanser, and exfoliate when possible. Use a moisturizer if your skin is especially dry. Keeping your skin clean will help with skin problems during pregnancy.
* Keep your skin dry whenever possible. It can be especially difficult, later on in pregnancy, to keep sweat off of the skin. To whatever degree possible, though, you should try to keep your skin dry. This will help with skin problems during pregnancy. Many women choose to carry a dry washrag in their purse for those occasions when they become sweaty during pregnancy. Again, if your skin is especially dry, however, you might consider moisturizing. While these methods won't end skin problems during pregnancy, they may help to minimize the impact of those skin problems.
