How to Deal with Work Stress

Lauramarie
Work related stress is one of the most common types of stress and no matter what occupation you find yourself in you are sure to experience some stress at one point or another. A shop assistant may become frustrated when she has customers complaining to her about the slow service, a cleaner may get annoyed whenever she is left with too much cleaning to do in a short space of time. Similarly a doctor may get stressed when their patient is not responding to their treatment and they have angry relatives to answer too. Pick any job and a certain amount of pressure and stress come with it.

The good news is that there are many things that you can do to ease this work stress. Firstly communicate. Communication is a great thing. We can talk to work colleagues and they can help sort out our problems. Sometimes when you are under pressure you complicate and over exaggerate things and when you discuss it with someone else you realise your problems are manageable. If you are lucky enough like me to have an understanding boss then you should definately let them know what is bothering you. I also tend to make lists of things, and by writing down things that are bothering me I can think of ways to overcome each problem individually.

Another great way to deal with work stress is to socialise. Yes that's right instead of coming home from work fretting about your latest mistakes and dreading the next day, go out and do something. It can be anything, but make sure it is something you enjoy. Meet with a friend for a coffee and a good gossip, go to the pictures, go shopping, or go out for a meal. We are social creatures and I know a good chat and meet-up with a friend makes me feel much better about myself. Take some time out for relaxation and exercise, these two things will do you the world of good also.

Are you happy at home perhaps you have financial or relationship problems as well as work related stress? If so chat with your partner, and have some spare time together, formulate a plan how you are going to save money and perhaps put some money aside for a small holiday. Small breaks can be a lifesaver and remind you what life is all about.

Remember work stress is manageable, and there are many things you can do to make sure you deal with yours effectively. See how I deal with work stress
