How to Decide What Kind of Headphones You Want

Ever since the invention of headphones for the computer, we have been able to hide the sound from others without any loss to us. Headphones are a great piece hardware to maximize your experience on the computer without effecting other people's lives with your sounds. In our world today, there are thousands of different kinds of headphones all designed for people with different preferences. There are cheap ones and expensive ones, but not all are as good as they may seem. Headphones may not seem like a long term investment, but they should be treated as one because I can guarantee you - once you find a specific brand of headphones you like, you will probably stick with it. So in short, it is important to pick the right kind of headphones to maximize your comfort and experience.

The first thing to look for in headphones is the size. Size can be difficult to judge from just looking at it in a plastic box, so be sure to check reviews online and see what other people say. A very common issue is the size of the headphones aren't big enough to match the shape of people's heads. This is a common design flaw that you would think is no longer an issue, but for some reason still is. Make sure people are comfortable with the size and have plenty of grace space to adjust it at will.

The second thing to check for is durability. Headphones may casually encounter a small fall or a rough tumble which can cause damage to unprepared headphones. This is generally difficult to judge since it isn't tested for, but an easy way to tell is to compare the brands. Logitech and Sony are generally known for durable headphones where as smaller companies may develop more brittle headphones. Research is key in picking proper headphones; otherwise you may end up with one not suitable for you.

The final thing to check for is comfort of the earphones on your ears. This is again difficult to judge from just looking at it in a box but a good thing to do is take advantage of the return policy if the store has one, and again research is key here. See what other people have to say about it. Now there are two different types of material that are mainstream in ear padding. There is the leather or faux-leather material which I personally dislike, and there is the padded/foamy material which I prefer. The faux-leather material can really cause some discomfort after some time in the cartilage enriched parts of the ear whereas the padded/foamy material has minimal but even pressure all over the ears. This provides the person with a comfortable experience.

Now a good bonus to headphones are ones that provide noise canceling. For those who have never had the chance to experience noise canceling headphones, the only way to describe it would be high up in an airplane and your ears are plugged. All sound around you is dulled and the world just seems perfect. You can expect it to do exactly what it says, cancel noise. If you are willing to spend the extra money, definitely consider noise canceling headphones. The technology is amazing and improves by the day.
