I decided to try placing a few items up for an auction on Ebay. I was thrilled with the results. Some pieces of clothes I did not figure would get a second look were snatched up.
Generally speaking, I usually try to research within Ebay to see other similar products that I am thinking about sell. Let's say I want to list a white baby blanket. I first search Ebay to see how well other products similar to it are selling. Obviously if other white baby blankets are not selling, I do not want to spend the time or small fee to list it online.
However, if my search generates results and the result show that the item is selling well, I go ahead and list my item. Since the listing fees are normally $0.15 per item listed at $0.99 and under, I try to list everything at $0.99. Chances are if other items like the item you are listing are being sold at a higher price than $0.99, odds are that your item will get snatched up quickly. Why pay a higher insertion price when the item is going to go for more than it is listed. When doing this, you need to remember that when you list it for a cheap price and it sells, you can not decide that it did not sell for what you wanted. Most everything I list I want to get rid of, so to me it does not matter if it does not sell for more money. When I decide it is not cost effective to list it on Ebay, I donate it to a charity.
Baby items always do well on Ebay. Some people even sell infant formula checks and coupons, as well as unused, unopened baby formula through ebay. Most people who receive these checks in the mail throw them out if it is not the brand of formula their child uses. Now, when you receive those checks, list them on ebay. From what I have researched, they usually go for $0.50 for every $1.00. So if you have $50 in formula checks, you could end up generating $25 in sales from something that you would have normally thrown out.
You can sell anything on Ebay. Check out your item first before listing. You do not want to list 10 items that do not sell. If you checked it out on Ebay beforehand, you might not have listed them knowing that they do not sell. Don't waste insertion and listing fees listing items that do not sell. Instead, take a day or two and watch items like yours to see how other sellers do it.
