How to Decide Who You Will Cast Your Vote For

Sarah Beth
First, if you do not know much about the candidates, it is not too late to start your research. How can anyone make such an important decision without first getting as much information as possible. We can not vote for someone just because our family asked us to, or because the neighbor that knows everything, has told you who the best candidate is. Do some research on your own. The internet is such a valuable tool for each of us as anything under the sun is right at our fingertips. Do not take this for granted. Our country, our way of life, our future, and the future of our children will be effected by this election.

Once you have done your research, start writing things down. I suggest choosing pros and cons for each candidate as this is the only definitive way to determine who you should cast your vote for. As you list the pros and cons, keep in mind that no one is perfect. If you seem to be finding more pros for one candidate over the other, stop and ask yourself are you allowing others opinions to cloud your thinking. If so, stop and take a break, clear your head, and start over later.

After much thought and preparation, go to the poll on election day knowing that you are voting on the best candidate for our country, your state, and your county. Do not let anyone try to convince you one way or the other. We are smarter than what most politicians give us credit for. We know when we are being lied to and we also know trustworthiness when we see it. Believe in yourself and cast your vote proudly. Our future depends on it.

Tips

* Do not second guess yourself. Initial instincts are usually right on.

* Remember no one is perfect and we may not agree with everything a candidate stands for, but we must choose who is best qualified to lead our country.

* Go ahead and make plans ahead of time if you are scheduled to work election day. Most bosses will excuse you being late if you give them a heads up.

Warnings

* Beware of what the media reports. This information is unfortunately very one-sided.

* Remember, there are always three sides to every story, yours, mine, and the truth.

* Know who you are going to vote for before you reach the polls as you will be approached with signs and buttons and political volunteers all trying to win you over.

I never really ever imagined I would enjoy writing quite as much as I do right now. I have found that writing is a very liberating process and is also quite enjoyable.  View profile
