How to Decorate Your Baby Nursery

Creating an Adorable Special Space for Your Baby

Lora
Your new baby is on his or her way. The excitement is in the air. Friends and family are asking the same two questions: Are you having a boy or a girl and is the nursery ready? You can create an adorable space that will invite your precious new baby into the world. The basics of every nursery will fill this room, a rocker, a crib, a bassinet, a changing table, and a dresser. If your room is the size of a walk in closet or the size of a large master suite the same appeal and sweetness can be captured.

The first item to choose is the crib and from there all other items can be chosen. For crib designs and styles you can look at JcPenny's catalog they have a lot of great ideas. You can also look on line at www.nurserydepot.com. The most popular colors for cribs are white, dark cherry or natural oak. The rest of the furniture chosen should match the crib unless you specifically choose a contrasting piece for style and effect.

The second item to be chosen is bedding. Again you can check the same site for ideas on bedding. Prices of crib bedding sets can range from 25.00 to 400.00. If you are on a tight budget rather than purchasing a set you can choose a comforter and then purchase sheets separately in basic colors that are found in the comforter. Another great idea is a quilt hanger which can be hung on the baby's wall to display the comforter and a softer, more pliable comforter can be used in the crib for daily use. www.babysupermall.com Has many comforter sets to choose from.

Once you have chosen a comforter you can then select paint. Using a soft neutral shade on the walls and then painting a quarter of the way up with a darker coordinating color found in the comforter can look great. Often times they sell a matching border for the comforter and this can be placed around the room along the top of the darker shade of paint. If the comforter you chose does not have a border to match choose a border using the same theme or if the comforter is a plain color use the color to choose a theme for the border. For example: if the comforter is pink you could choose a border with pink and red flowers. From there the theme could become flowers and you could add butterflies. Or if the comforter was covered in ships you could pick a darker blue border with baby blocks and the ABC's. You could then have a shelf displaying toy ships and stacked baby blocks. There is a world of choices and it is made easier by looking on line. Check out www.babysupermall.com for even more ideas. Target has a great selection of shelves and wall decorations in their children's bedroom section that you may enjoy browsing through. Your comforter can be a great theme starter so just go with that flow when adding decorations to the walls.

The next touch is a throw rug for the floor. This rug can be a mixture of the colors chosen in the room or it can be in the shape of a theme from the decor of the room such as a ship, a flower, a butterfly or a giraffe. The final touch is the rocking chair. This is a special item. It can be an antique passed down through the family that you have re-upholstered to match the room or it can be a traditional wooden rocker. Babys-R-Us has a great selection that you can go and sit in and try out.

Once your room is complete spend time in there rocking in the chair, rubbing your belly gently and singing to your baby. Create a welcoming atmosphere of love, joy and anticipation. Your baby will feel the love and appreciation that you put into decorating his or her new room.
