The truth is that decorating your nursery or baby room can be as cheap or expensive, simple or mind boggling as you make it.
Here are some tips to make your life easier:
How to decorate your Baby nursery - choosing a Nursery theme
Whether it's an adorable Disney character, frogs, cows, fairies or trucks it's entirely up to you to decide what to put in your baby room, as your child will not have an opinion about what they like or don't like until they are older.

How to decorate your Baby nursery - choosing baby crib bedding
The best way to find a theme for your nursery is to start with baby crib bedding. It is a good idea to thoroughly check out what is available on the market before you make your choice.
In order to learn about the different themes and pricing available, check out baby stores, internet markets such as eBay and Amazon and even second hand stores.
Before you buy your bedding, make a short list of what you like and accurately measure your crib to see that you are planning to buy fits your baby bed.

How to decorate your Baby Nursery - Tips about used baby bedding
If you are tempted to go for used baby bedding( especially if it is a hand me down from family) in order to save an extra buck, thoroughly check the condition of the item before you put it in your crib.
Wash the baby bedding thoroughly and check for stains ( which may indicate mold) and torn or frayed fabric. Make sure that you place your baby in a crib where the bedding fits perfectly as loose bumpers (that can fall on your child) and stuffed plush toys can pose a serious suffocation hazard.
How to decorate your Baby nursery - Choosing the right nursery furniture
The basic necessities for your nursery are crib and baby changer. Even if you plan to co-sleep with your child, it is always best to have a crib at hand because it is often the safest place to lay your child to rest during day naps.
Another must have on my nursery list is a baby changer. I have heard heard the arguments about changing babies on beds, couches and even kitchen tables but frankly I think that the safest place to change your baby is your baby changer since baby changers often have protective barriers that keep your changing pad in place and prevent it from slipping out of place. Though one should never leave a baby unattended during changing time, many baby changers come with a safety strap you can use to prevent your baby from rolling over during changing time. Baby changers are also an extremely practical place to store all your diapers and baby needs handy and keep nursery clutter at bay.
Baby swings and gliders are other nice extras to have in your room since a glider is an excellent place to breast feed and baby swings have often proved to pacify cranky babies back into peaceful slumber.

How to decorate your Baby nursery - Decorating your nursery
Once you have chosen your nursery theme and nursery furniture decorating the rest of your nursery is easy. You can choose to go on with your theme in your drapes, rugs, art work and other accessories or you can opt to coordinate your accessories with your bedding by matching color or pattern.
Though several baby stores offer a wide range of accessories that co-ordinate with your bedding it is often better not to overdo your theme (and get too matchy -matchy) as it might give your nursery a cluttered effect.
If themed nursery accessories are out of your budget, go for accessories that match the color of your bedding. An advantage of going for neutral accessories is that they won't become obsolete as your baby grows into a child.
If this is your first child and you are planning to keep extending the family going for gender neutral bedding and accessories might mean that you could use the same things for your future children too.
How to decorate your Baby nursery - A final word
Finally if you feel guilty about placing your baby in a hand me down crib and are on the verge of forking out big bucks on expensive nursery décor, remember that your child will remember very little of the first years spent in the nursery and will never mind if the drapes don't match the crib bedding to perfection and there is no $500 + dollar hand painted Winnie pooh mural on the wall.
