How to Decorate a Barbie-Inspired Christmas Tree

Whimsical Fun for the Holidays

Anyone with a little girl knows the hold that Barbie can have on a small child. This simple Barbie inspired Christmas trees perfect for a little girl's bedroom during the holiday. You can make it any size that you want, but a miniature tree would be perfect sitting atop a dresser during Christmas.

I always loved to make a tiny Christmas tree for my bedroom when I was a child. While it may not have been strung with lights, I did put anything, including Barbie clothes on it.

To Decorate a Barbie Inspired Christmas tree you Will Need:

Small Barbie Plastic Hangers
Barbie Clothing
Christmas Tree
1 Barbie Doll (in a large Christmas or ball gown)
Ribbon or floral wire
2 inch wide wire ribbon

Now, the first step it to start hanging all of your Barbie doll clothing on the little hangers. You will have to determine how many pieces of clothing you need based on the size of your Christmas tree. I like to stick to all ball gowns or dresses for this whimsical Christmas tree. I also find great little metal hangers in the dollhouse section of the arts and craft store, which are a great substitute for the plastic hangers.

Now, take your two inch wide ribbon and start wrapping it around the Christmas tree like garland. I find that using whimsical colors is perfect for this project, so do not feel limited to only red or green ribbon. Shiny pink or purple ribbon is the best for Barbie Christmas tree. Just be sure to buy the ribbon that has wire built into the edges so you can control how it rests on the tree. If you are decorating a large tree in this Barbie theme, then you may need wider ribbon.

Once the ribbon is on the tree start hanging all of the Barbie doll dresses on the Christmas tree just like regular ornaments. Make sure the dresses lay out on the branches so they can be fully displayed. Once the entire tree is filled sufficiently with Barbie dresses you can make the tree topper.

I like to take one Barbie doll and dress her in a ball gown or even a Christmas gown. You need her to be in a dress that covers her legs. Now, lift the dress and either use ribbon or floral wire to tie her legs to the top of your Christmas tree. Pull the ball gown back over the Barbie legs and cover the top point of the tree.

Now you are finished.

Tips:

Use as many Barbie doll dresses at you can. The more dresses the better. You are not going for a minimalist look here.

You can use some of the Barbie accessories on the Christmas tree as ornaments as well. Briefcase, pocketbooks, and book bags can all be easily hung on Christmas tree branches.

You can hot glue shoes together and use an ornament hook to hang them on the tree. The hot glue can be popped off later so the shoes can be played with again.

The whole point of this whimsical Barbie doll tree is to step outside of the traditional Christmas tree box, so have fun with color. Establish pink and purple theme and play off of that and you will really have success!
