Home Much Updating Are You Allowed to Do?

Rental properties often are only updated in the common areas of the home. The main living areas; kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms are clean and polished. The house seems modern, until you go to the bathroom. You may be living with a haunting geometric pattern on your bathroom tile. The print may be ducks, chickens, smiley faces, that seems to taunt you. Perhaps the wall paper is screaming to be torn down. The shag carpeting may be green, orange, or full of stains. Or you may feel trapped in the era your home was built. Here are 3 tips to help you update your bathroom in your rental home or apartment.

Surfaces

Cover the walls. Your landlord may allow for you to fix the walls. Read over your lease to see what the rules are. You may be able to paint, re wall paper, or add fabric to the walls. If you are in doubt about what wall colors to use, try neutral tones that match your current bathroom accessories. If there seems to be no solution to covering the walls, curtains may help. Hanging wall length curtains on a portion of the wall can help to disguise imperfections and patterns that do not suite your personal tastes.

Furniture

Adding furniture to your bathroom is a great storage solution. Many older homes do not have adequate space for towels, toiletries, or grooming items. Furniture made specifically for bathrooms, can transform your bathroom into a cozy room, you look forward to relaxing in. Bathroom shelving can hold candles, scented oils, and products that remind you to pamper yourself.

Floors

If the floor is tiled area rugs can disguise the ugliest of patterns or colors. If you are having a hard time finding the right size rug, consider buying two smaller rugs. The rugs can be joined with rug tape. If the room shape is difficult to size, have a rug made to fit the floor. You local home center can cut a rug to your detailed measurements. You can temporarily tack the rug to the floor with a no slip pad underneath.

Updating what you can, will help to spruce up your home. Changing our surroundings can help you to feel better about your home. Relaxing in an inviting bathroom is great on days that are stress filled. Your new bathroom with calmer walls, pleasant carpeting, and aromatherapy items can help you to wash off the troubles of your work day. Use these tips to update your bathroom in your rental home or apartment.
