To Make a Baseball Themed Birthday Cake You Will Need:
Box of your favorite cake mix
Sheet pan
Tan colored icing (caramel, peanut butter, or even chocolate)
Graham crackers
Baseball cake figures (to be discussed)
Piping icing
White icing
Green food dye
The first step is to go ahead and bake you favorite cake mix in a sheet pan. Once cooked you can let it cool and decorate the Baseball Themed Baseball Diamond Birthday Cake in the pan for easy travel or simply turn the sheet cake out on a platter.
Now on to the decorating.
The first step is to ice the entire Baseball Themed Baseball Diamond Birthday Cake in a tan or light brown color icing. Caramel and peanut butter icings will work well here.
Now, take about two cups of the white icing and use some food coloring.
You want to map out your baseball diamond by drawing on the pattern with a toothpick. Use a picture of a baseball diamond for inspiration.
Now, use the green icing to make a diamond in the middle. Add some on the outer edges of the cake as grass on theBaseball Diamond . Simple spread loosely with a butter knife. You are only making the ground, so do not get caught up in perfection, the details will come in layers.
Now, grind a few graham crackers in a food processor. Use this finely ground graham crackers to make a pitchers mound in the middle. You can also sprinkle a little around the dirt areas.
Now, microwave a graham cracker for about 20 seconds in the microwave. While they are soft cut out four small bases. Use white icing to coat the baseball bases and place them in the correct spots on the sheet cake.
Now, you can use white icing in a tube to make the white lines drawn on the baseball field.
Finally, add any writing you want. Happy Birthday or Congratulations or Great Job are all fine depending on the occasion.
Now, for the little baseball players on your Baseball Themed Birthday Cake you have a few options. I found great little baseball payer shaped candles at my local craft store, which were perfect. You can also use those little lightweight plastic figurines in the toy department, the ones that look like army people, but they are baseball players.
Scatter you baseball players throughout the Baseball Themed Baseball Diamond Birthday Cake and you are finished!

Rebecca,
What a great idea! I loved this article. Wish there were a picture of the cake to go along with the article. Guess I'll have to make it myself so I can see it, lol.
I doubt I will ever make a cake, at least not seriously, but this reminded me of the ones my mom used to make me...made a train one one time I always thought was cool
