Using real fresh fruit is another way to decorate a cake. Use fruits in season. This adds a very colorful addition to any cake. Whole strawberries with the ends dipped in chocolate with mint leaves is very attractive. You can also use fresh fruits that have been dipped in regular sugar arranged around the cake. A word of warning, cut fruit wont last long so be sure cake is eaten with in a couple of hours. They wont hold up over night. After several hours they turn brown and start to weep into the cake so be sure to eat cake within 2 hours.
I have found a very simple way to make roses for your cake. They can be colored any color of your choosing to match your wedding colors. Below are the instructions.
1. Roll marzipan into a soft ball.
2. Pinch off a small piece.
3.Flatten the piece.
4. Put a small drop of food coloring into the center ( what ever you want color of roses to be ).
5. Roll this up into a ball. Careful to not touch coloring.
6. Put on a pair of rubber or plastic gloves. As food coloring will stain your hands.
7. Roll around in hands until color is evenly distributed.
8. Roll out into a long roll ( like you were making noodles to cut ).
9. Cut into small sections.
10. Place each section between layers of saran wrap. Using the back of a spoon, flatten out thin. Swirling spoon around as you flatten.
11. Unwrap one piece and curl it around till it meets and over laps just a bit. Not too much tho. This makes your first petal.
12. Start next petal at seam where you left off. Do two petals in this row.
13. Next row do 3 petals, next row 4 petals etc. Do this until you get rose the size you want.
14. Pinch all together at the bottom.then pinch off bottom to make it flat.
15. Thats it an easy rose with out using a flower nail ( which I never could use ).
