How to Decorate Your Car for Christmas

Melanie L. Marten
The houses up and down the street twinkle with multi-colored lights. Wreaths welcome visitors to the door with cheery red bows and green pine branches. The inside of the house is decorated like a winter wonderland with ornaments, furnishings, and that special Christmas tree. Why not spread the Christmas cheer and decorate your car or family vehicle for the winter holiday as well?

Decorating your car for Christmas not only helps you keep the festive spirit during difficult commutes or holiday travels. It can also increase the joy of other drivers on the road, or people you pass on your way to shopping and visiting. The main rule of decorating your car for Christmas is safety first. Never use things that can become damaging or distracting and cause accidents.

Decorate the Inside of Your Car for Christmas

Begin by laying festive red or green blankets over the car seats. This will not only make the inside of your vehicle look like the holidays, it can also make it warmer on those chilly mornings. Be sure not to block the seat belt connectors. If you do not want to display blankets across the entire seats, consider a cozy throw blanket for those huddled in the back seat.

Continue decorating your car for Christmas by hanging a holiday bauble from your rear view mirror. Check local laws about decorations hanging there before you do this. A shiny Christmas ball may be distracting or shoot beams of light into your eyes from other cars. Choose a satin ball, a sprig of holly with shiny red berries, or a small Christmas package decoration.

Decorate the Outside of Your Car for Christmas

One of the easiest ways to decorate the outside of your car for Christmas is to wire a small pine wreath to the grill. Be sure to attach it securely and do not include any loose decorations. Using sturdy wire will help keep the decoration safe. For added festivity, use a small string of twinkling holiday lights that run off a battery pack. Simply switch it on when you are driving out in the dark hours.

You can also attach a Christmas decoration to your car antenna for the holiday season. While there are those that you can purchase, you can make your own with holiday picks or other light-weight decorations. Be sure that the item is very secure on the antenna.

Decorating your car for the Christmas holiday is just another way to spread the cheer and festivity of this season.

I thought I was the only person who did this. I always have a blanket on my seat.
