How to Decorate a Grand Foyer with Unique Architectural Decor

Wall Gates, Ceiling Medallions and More

An ordinary foyer can look extraordinary when unique architectural decor is added to the design. It does not have to be built-in, and remodeling is not required to create an impressive entry space. With decor such as wall gates, ceiling medallions and wall niches, even the most unassuming entryway can look like a grand foyer. When properly used, architectural decor can become an integral part of the home.

I have used unique architectural decor in the homes of clients, and the results have been phenomenal. The homes were already gorgeous, but the additions made the entryways even more impressive. Some thought that I had hired a builder to bring my design ideas to life, but all of the decor I used was purchased online and added without alterations, modifications or extensive work.

Place Architectural Wall Gates in the Foyer

Architectural wall gates made from wood and iron are available from online home decor stores. The sturdy wood bases and trim along the top are designed to appear naturally aged, and the ironwork can be highly ornate. Wall gates are available in many sizes and styles, and they offer a wide array of decorating possibilities.

The wall gates I purchased and used to decorate a client's grand foyer were approximately two yards high. When securely attached to the oversized doorway that led to the great room they appeared to be part of the architectural design. They looked as if they had been in place all along, but surprisingly they were less than $130 each.

Decorate the Ceiling with an Architectural Medallion

The ceiling fixture in this particular grand foyer was already quite impressive, but it needed architectural style to coordinate with the beautiful home. I showed the client several ceiling medallions that could be used to surround the base of her chandelier. She chose a brilliantly detailed ceiling medallion with an antique silver finish. It coordinated beautifully with the metal chandelier. The two separate pieces looked as if they were designed to go together. The architectural medallion was the finishing touch in this grand foyer, and the client was very pleased with the added details and final results.

Use a Wall Niche to Decorate a Grand Foyer

Another client with a grand foyer wanted to give it more architectural dimension and appeal. I suggested a classical surface-mounted niche. Although it appeared to be built into the grand foyer wall, modifications were not necessary. It was very easy to install. I mounted it securely to the grand foyer wall using the appropriate wall anchors and hardware. The client used the niche to display a miniature statue. It was an architectural element that required very little preparation, and the results were quite impressive.

Decorate with Extraordinary Corbels

I completed the grand foyer with the addition of two highly-detailed corbels next to the entryway doors. For around $200 each, they created a very dramatic effect in the grand foyer. I mounted the corbels next to the trim that surrounded each sidelight, and they looked extraordinary. The grand foyer was already rich and exquisite in appearance, but the corbels added an architectural element unlike anything else I could have added.

Shop online for architectural decor, and imagine your grand foyer with the options of your choice. Ceiling medallions, wall niches and corbels are just a few of the many alternatives when looking for new ways to decorate a grand foyer. A water feature is another fantastic architectural element that can transform an entryway into a grand foyer with amazing artistic flair.
