Save some Decorations for the Guest Room. If you don't want to spend any more money than necessary on Turkey Day items, it is not imperative that you purchase any additional holiday decorations. Simply make a few changes this year in your decorating scheme, and leave some items for the guest room. If your pilgrim couple or porcelain turkey has always sat on your fireplace mantel, give them a change of scenery and place them on the dresser in the guest bedroom. Just a few modifications in the placement of your Thanksgiving decorations will give the guest room a little holiday feeling and give the rest of the house a fresh new look.
Fill it with the Scents of the Season. Scented candles, potpourri and decorative air fresheners are all very helpful in adding to the holiday decor of the home. Add a few items to the room that will fill the air with the scents of Pumpkin Spice, Cinnamon, and Apple Pie. If you are concerned that traditional candles will be left unattended during the holiday festivities, opt for battery powered ones or choose potpourri and air fresheners to give that guest room the delicious scents of the season.
Give it a mini Fall Makeover. Just a few splashes of Autumn color can give your guest room a warm and cozy Thanksgiving feeling. Add deep orange, rich chocolate brown and bold cranberry colored throw pillows to the bed. Switch the light switch covers, lamp shades or picture frames to ones that are gold, brown, burgundy or a combination. Keep to the main color scheme of the room, just give it a boost of holiday flair with a few dashes of traditional Fall color.
Hang a Homemade Holiday Wreath on the Door. Greet your Thanksgiving guests with a simple and lovely handmade wreath on the door. Visit your local craft store for a plain grapevine wreath and then get busy with your glue gun to add some simple and tasteful symbols of the season. Sprigs of dark berries, colorful Autumn leaves and miniature wheat bundles can be affixed to celebrate the natural beauty of the season. Hang your finished wreath on the front of the guest room door to give your visitors a warm holiday greeting. This sweet gesture will surely get your holiday visit off to a wonderful start.
